I had my first bloods taken last week, the first since before covid, it seems my follow up appointment will be in November. Is this the normal now, not even a telephone consultation to discuss results??

You could ring them now & ask for results regardless when appointment is.

Own diabetes team is hospital clinic, week before appointment get bloods taken at gp surgery then discuss them with Consultant DSN following week.

Welcome @Shirlshirl 🙂 I usually arrange my bloods with my GP when I receive my consultant appointment (all done by phone at the moment) and I arrange them for 2 or 3 weeks prior to the appointment date. That way my results are back and we can discuss them during the appointment.

I think the blood testing and follow up appointments seem to vary hugely depending upon your clinic.
I have an annual check up at my local hospital. During the pandemic the consultation was over the phone but they have reverted to face to face.
In addition my GP surgery do two diabetes reviews per year. I have avoided these most of the time as they try to schedule them about a week after the hospital one. However, this year, I decided I would find out what they do. It was a blood test and then a phone consultation with the surgery nurse. They only tested HbA1c and the results were available online before the consultation. The nurse was not very knowledgeable about Type 1. She asked two questions: had I ever had a hypo (in nearly 20 years!) and how much Lantus do I use in my pump (none). Following this experience, I will take the blood tests the GP surgery offers but will not bother with the nurse review.
I am lucky the hospital clinic are more knowledgeable and helpful.

Is your apt with the GP practice or a hospital consultant?
Either way I would point out that doing the blood tests 8mts before your review is a complete and utter waste of time and resources as the tests would be irrelevant by then.

That does sound unusual @Shirlshirl

As others have said, I usually have the bloods done soon before a routine appointment.

I wonder if it is perhaps a way of screening for people who may need to be seen more urgently while they are still under considerable pressure with a backlog of routine appointments?

So they can get the checks done, and see those who need the most urgent attention soonest?
