Hi I have been on insulin for 43years and a pump for the last 7 years.

I am currently on a Medtronic 780g pump. After looking online this morning I found people who had discovered cracks on their pumps near the battery compartment. On checking mine I found a crack. I have organised a replacement pump. Medtronic are aware of this problem.
It is worth checking your pumps!

Welcome @FrankC 🙂 Thanks for that great reminder! I’m a pump user but not Medtronic, but there are a number of Medtronic users here.

Welcome to the forum @FrankC

The last Medtronic pump I had was the MM640G, and there were some cracking issues with those too. As I understand it, the chassis of the MM pumps is still the same, so I guess they are still using the same case material?

There’s a MM780G thread in the Pump and Tech section where forum folks share their experiences 🙂

Thanks for this prompt Frank.
I have had a pump crack, and discovered when I drowned my pump whilst in a pool. As with yours Medtronic replaced it. I no longer expect it to be waterproof.

Are you using their sensors and looping with your pump?
As @everydayupsanddowns mentioned we started a thread for 780 users when these first became available in UK for looping. We have each found tips for getting round issues, so it might be worth a look.

I look forward to hearing more from you.

I was initially on the G3 sensor for two years and went onto the G4 last year. HbA1c went from about 80 to 50 after transferring to an insulin pump.

That transition to a pump was a good improvement @FrankC
What shocked me more was the improvement in my Time in Range. Once you are tweaking the pump to suit and start to use the various facilities available it makes a big difference.

Then the further improvement when I started looping, (or Automated Insulin Delivery) For me the main thing was achieving that with a lot less work to do day by day. That took a bit of getting used to, but the sleep full nights (most of the time) are bliss and I go through hours between meals when I can ignore my diabetes, until Hermione (my pump) demands some attention.

I want a Hermione that lives up to her name please. After all - were it really worthy of being called after Miss Grainger - she wouldn't need any attention at all, because she was often A LOT more intuitive than those boys, even Harry himself, wasn't she!

She is very intuitive but takes her responsibilities very seriously and just wants some attention now and then as I think she feels that I might be taking her for granted (which I am!!!). I did get a bit annoyed with her when, as things had been so good for 7 hours and she had not needed to do anything extra, she wanted to know that I was okay and woke me (and OH) in the middle of the night. Now I just make sure I acknowledge her before I go to sleep. It hasn’t happened again.

Hermione Grainger was a wizard, and so is Hermione my pump.
I forgive her a lot for all that she has taken on for me.

More like people then @SB2015 - we all have our own little individual idiosyncracies but unlike actual people who may forgive us when we err - bloomin machines don't, so we can only ignore them beeping at us at our own peril! 😉
