Hi
I was diagnosed with type 2 8 years ago. Started well controlling it with diet and exercise but I lost my mum 2 years ago and marriage was breaking up. My sugar levels went bad, I had bad time and finally got told my pancreas was failing me. Put on creon to help put stuff back into my body when I eat. Then put on insulin as body not performing. Now at a dip - eating c**p, sugar levels high, going thru divorce and Put on weight.
 
Sorry to hear this , we have a number of members who take Creon.
 
Cut yourself some slack Primrose - it's an awful time of upheaval in your life _ so you are absolutely allowed some!

However - have you actually discussed this with your GP surgery - either doc or the nurse? Cos if your BG is increasing - that on its own will be more likely to make you feel c**p without the personal things - hence if you need helping out with something else whether it be a different tablet or one of the injectables, cos there are modern T2 injectables, some of which reduce appetite, which might help you just now until you can get back onto a more even keel.

Other T2s on this forum will know much more about them than I do, so hopefully will add their knowledge about them here, in an effort to assist you.

You certainly have some difficult things to deal with, and dealing with T2 over the top of this must be very difficult.

You say that you initially did well by controlling with diet and exercise, so you probably have the information on how to do this, but if you need any reminders on this then let me know and I will send you some links.

Please keep posting, if only as somewhere to pour things out, and we will always try to help even if all we can do is empathise.

It sounds as though the Medics think her pancreas is either packing in or has packed in.
 
I found it actually helped to cope with life in general to be eating a low carb diet - divorce and organising a mortgage went a lot better after I - yet again - rebelled against the dictates of my GP. Work was easier due to the increase in energy levels. I was not diagnosed diabetic back then, but I realise that I was affected by the 'healthy' way of eating I was told was essential.

If you were put on Creon, I wonder whether you might be a type 3c, rather than a classic T2?

Perhaps @eggyg @mikeyB or @KARNAK might have some helpful pointers?

One of the biggest questions when trying to get to grips with your diabetes is often ‘what can I eat’ and while there are obvious things like cakes, biscuits, sweets and sugary drinks that you will be wanting to cut out straight away, you might be surprised how much *all* carbohydrate affects your BG levels, including rice, pasta, bread, pastry, grains, cereals and many fruits.

The really tricky thing is that blood glucose responses to food are highly individual, and it can be impossible to say which forms and amounts of carbohydrate will ‘spike’ your BG without checking for yourself.

But the good news is that it is possible to check this for yourself and tailor your own ideal way of eating that suits you and your BG levels. You can use a BG meter, checking before and after meals, and checking what the differences are. Then identify any foods that seem to be causing you difficulties and try varying or reducing them (sometimes just having things at a different time of day makes a difference)

The first question to ask is who started you on Creon? Did you have any symptoms of pancreatic insufficiency such as greasy difficult to flush poo?

It’s almost unheard of for a GP to initiate treatment with Creon so I assume this is a consultant decision. If you are under consultant care, then that is where you can get advice, or cross referral to a diabetes specialist. If you really do have generalised pancreatic insufficiency as I do, then you should be treated with insulin. ( I was T1 long before my pancreas gave up the ghost)
