Just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes with high blood pressure. Can't wait to read all your advice

Welcome to the forum @Caz1963 you've come to the right place for advice and information. I've not long been a T2-diagnosed member and I've learnt so much - keep reading and good luck.

Welcome to the forum @Caz1963

Have they given you any medication to start with? And can you remember the result of your HbA1c? this will be a number above 47 if you have a diagnosis with diabetes, but might be much higher.

To get you started with a good grounding of T2, you might like to dip into the Learning Zone, which is packed with helpful modules that you can work through at your own pace.

Or for a more personal account you might like the free Maggie Davey’s Letter to the Newly Diagnosed or Gretchen Becker’s book T2 Diabetes, the first year, which give an overview of how two people responded to their diagnosis.

And keep firing away with questions too. Nothing will be thought of as too obvious or silly 🙂

HbA1c is 53 and I want to try controlling with diet firstly. I have high blood pressure and they are connected. GP going to send me to Desmond course to

53mmol/mol is only just in the diabetes zone so it should be very possible to reduce it by dietary changes and increasing exercise if you can. Many do find their blood pressure reduces when they get better management of blood glucose.
Have a look at this link for some ideas for modifying your diet and some do's and don'ts. It is a low carbohydrate approach which many find is successful at both losing weight if you need to and reducing blood glucose. https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/
Some find a low calorie or shakes -based regime gives them a kick start but whatever you choose has to be enjoyable otherwise it will not be sustainable.
I went low carb and it has just become my new normal and I do not miss the high carb foods as there are plenty of tasty alternatives.

Thanks for that, I need to lose weight and this is the kick start I need. Starting to walk for 20 mins a day also going back to aqua aerobics .
