Hi. I’ve just found this site. Just wanted to say hello

I’ve just recently been put on the freestyle libre 2 plus sensor
If it’s not telling me I’ve got low sugar about 4 times a day but if I leave it and don’t eat or drink my levels go back up on their own or it’s not working or falling off. Or just stops working. Oh I’m fed up and confused. Is it just me. Or is this common. Looking forward to hearing from anyone in the same boat.Im a type 2 diabetic.

Welcome to the forum
What happens to your blood glucose throughout the day and night will depend on a number of factors, mainly what you eat, what medication you take and when and what exercise you do.
I would be hard for somebody to speculate what is going on in your case without a bit more information about how you manage your condition and what in general your blood glucose levels are. Posting a screen shot of your Libre graph may also help.
The Libre does not suit everyone and you need to be aware of its limitations.
Hopefully some regular users will be along to help.

Welcome to the forum @Pasa

There are may here who are on the freestyle libre 2 plus sensor who may be able to help and I'm sure will pop along soon and help answer some of your questions

Alan 😉

According to Libre do you experience most of your lows at night?
I ask because these may be compression lows - when pressure is applied to the sensor (e.g. if you lie on your arm in your sleep), it blocks the flow of interstitial fluid (which is used to calculate the BG) and reports a false BG.
These compression lows are easy to spot: the BG will drop suddenly and rise to a similar level very soon afterwards (as you turn back over and no longer applying pressure to the sensor).

Hi @Pasa and welcome to the forum - as @helli has mentioned compression lows are very common (I get them all the time) and my latest HbA1c result has just come in and it was 5 mmol/mol higher than what Libre was estimating (I'm guessing the compresssion lows have contributed to the not so great estimate)

Hello & welcome ! 🙂 . This is a great site for advice and information which I hope you'll find useful.

@Pasa welcome to the forums. I have used the Libre 2 in the past (twice) and had a few hiccups with it. As others have said the low alerts, if at night are normally compression lows although you can do a quick finger test check to double check the your current BG.
The intermittent failure can also occur in the morning or during the day if you leave it for two long before allowing it to synch with your phone or sensor, I normally did a quick sync on waking up and maybe late afternoon. The sensor only holds about 8 hours of data.
As @mashedupmatt says, the HbA1c forecast is not overly accurate but a guess at where you could be. As the HbA1c and the Libre2 are measuring different things, it is not unusual for your HbA1c to be different from the forecast.

I think your knowledge of Libre is out of date.
Libre no longer needs "synching" or scanning unless you are using the Libre reader. If you are using the Libre app, it is updated via Bluetooth.
There is no failure if you do not scan unless you lose connectivity for more than 8 hours.

@helli what you say is how it is supposed to work but every morning, I got a nice little alarm on my phone which I could only get rid of by holding it to the sensor and allowing it to update itself despite my phone lying on the nightstand next to me. During the day the problem was less of a concern but I got into the habit of doing the synch again late afternoon to clear out the stored data.
I also had issues during the day, towards the end of the 15 days where the senor would not talk to my phone for short periods of time and even if I held it close to my phone I got messages saying that the sensor was not available. Than about 10 minutes later it would update and capture all the information.

With sensors that try to speak to phones via Bluetooth I find it helps to keep the handset on the same side as the arm that the sensor is in. This seems to offer it a better ‘line of sight.

My iPhone isn’t too bad TBH, but the connection between pump and sensor is more solid on the same side.

Sorry you’ve had such a frustrating start with Libre 2+ @Pasa

Are you calling Abbott when your sensors go wrong? They will be able to talk you through, troubleshoot any problems and will most likely replace them (the NHS shouldn’t pay for sensors that don’t work!). Plus reporting failures helps Abbott keep track of any lots or batches which seem to be having more failures than expected.

Hope your experience with Libre 2+ improves.

It’s really helpful to have that flow of data when on insulin!

Hi @Pasa, hope you find your libra helps you, once you fully understand it
any sensor issues I would say either report the Libra via Abbott’s online reporting or just give them a call
they are very helpful any problems they will usually send out a replacement FOC to you as the user

levels will change all day I was amazed to discover this myself when I stated on CGM about 6 months ago

The 10 min error message can happen this when you’ve had a sudden rise or fall in levels and the sensor doesn’t perform its calculations as quickly as your levels are changing (or it can be a error/faulty sensor) I’ve had a few in the past where it did that several times then eventually the app threw up a sensor has failed please remove and start a new sensor error message (obviously these were replaced FOC)
