Hi @Joony613 and welcome to the forum!

We have some very good information about carbs on our website, which goes over how it affects our bodies and its relation to diabetes - https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/enjoy-food/carbohydrates-and-diabetes

Following a low-carb diet or meal plan can be a good way to reduce carb intake, which is explained further here - https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/enjoy-food/eating-with-diabetes/meal-plans/low-carb

On a side note, if you like to cook then we have a recipe finder on our website which could be useful! You have the option to look for recipes with lower fat, lower sugar and more - https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/recipes

I trust that some of our community members will add on with more carb advice for you 🙂

Hi I was told Tuesday and my HbA1c is 43
Hello @Joony613 ,
To be classed as diabetic, it would have to be over 48 so you have a good chance of making some small adjustments to your diet to get you under the prediabetic mark which is 42. Did your GP ask about your diet? That was one of the first questions they asked me.

No they didn’t ask about diet just asked if I wanted to be referred to the diabetes prevention programme
do you know how many carbs we are supposed to keep to each day?

Hello @Joony613 ,

In terms of carbs, their isn't a set limit how many you should. Some people can tolerate having a lot of carbs, but some people can only manage having little carbs because too many really spikes their blood sugars. The actual amount that you need to eat will depend on your age, activity levels and the goals you are trying to achieve. For example, one person trying to lose weight and manage their blood glucose levels on a low-carb diet would restrict their carb intake, while another person who is happy with their weight may decide to eat more healthy carbs.

It may be helpful to start by having low carb high protein meals as a starter and see how you go. Did your GP recommend losing weight? This could be a starting option. You could also try a Mediterranean diet.
