Hi all
Have been told I am pre- diabetic, finding the forum useful so far.
Welcome to the forum
Hopefully you will have picked up a few tips and ideas about how people turn their situation around by making some dietary changes, depending on how close you are to the threshold of a diabetes diagnosis which is 47mmol/l then some modest changes may be all that is needed. Look upon it as an opportunity to make some lifestyle changes for the better.

Thank you
My HbA1c is 47 and I’ve been told im
pre diabetic following a blood test in July. I’ve made big changes to my diet - really
restricted the carbohydrates… I was a total bread addict. I have a lot of weight to lose but after seven weeks of low carb, and two meals a day of smaller portions, I feel good and know I have lost weight. The next step is exercising… which I hate. I’ve started walking and listening to podcasts and will take it from there.

Thank you

Yes you were just on the cusp so the dietary changes you have been making should make a difference. One thing to remember is that what you are doing needs to be enjoyable as it really has to become a new way of eating other wise you could find yourself back to square one. Walking is good exercise as long as it is brisk not just ambling about.
Well done though on taking on board your diagnosis. I hope your next HbA1C in 3 months will show a positive outcome.

Welcome to the forum @Flossup and congratulations on the strong start you’ve made. If you keep up these changes for 3 months (which is roughly the recommended time between HbA1c checks to see maximum effect) you should see a big impact on your levels I would expect 🙂

Hopefully you will also get the benefit and encouragement of feeling better in yourself too? Some newcomers to the forum say they haven’t realised how worn down and fatigued they had been feeling until they made the sort of positive changes you have been making, lost weight, and improved their glucose levels. High glucose levels can lower your mood and make you feel pretty grim, but it sneaks up on you gradually, so you may not have noticed until that fog begins to lift!

That can make sticking with your new way of eating more appealing and easier long term 🙂

Thanks so much.
I am definitely feeling better, and actually not missing my old ‘carby’ ways at all. I even managed to negotiate my way through an all inclusive holiday feeling empowered and in control making informed choices - this is a lifestyle change.
I have a lot of weight to lose, and like you say, the changes I’ve already made will hopefully have an impact when I’m next tested.
Thanks for the support.

I’ve just had my blood tests back - my HbA1c is now 40! I am so pleased with myself… I stopped eating bread, pasta, rice, pastry, potatoes - really restricted my carbohydrate intake and it worked. I feel so much better, no longer feel bloated, and it want nearly as hard as I thought it would be. Still a way to go…. But out of the pre diabetes range.

Congratulations @Flossup! Your hard work has certainly paid off. It’s great to hear that you feel so much better.

Well done! Great result and more importantly, that you feel healthier in yourself. Keep up the good work and thanks for posting your result as I am sure it will give others some motivation and inspiration.
