Type 1
Hello fellow diabetics, my name is Jack I'm 23 and as three weeks ago I was diagnosed with type 1. Safe to say I'm still a little baffled and shell shocked with things and am currently still trying to get my levels down to normal after quite a nasty DKA in hospital. I'd love to get more advice on things and start getting my life into a new routine. So like many on here, any advice and discussions would be greatly appreciated. Best wishes!

Hi Jack and welcome to the forum. 🙂 What insulins have they put you on? Although diagnosis is a big shock in time it will all become second nature. Technology and insulins have changed dramatically over the years and continues to advance allowing us to be able to manage our T1 compared to before. What kind of activities do you like doing? Type 1 shouldn't stop you from doing anything you did before.

Welcome Jack from a T2

Hello Jack and welcome 🙂

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis and DKA. It is a steep leaning curve with no time to adapt to the new routine but bit by bit things do start to fit back together and start to settle down.

Your body has been through a tough time desperate for energy without an insulin supply and it takes a while to feel better. Treat yourself gently and don't panic if your levels take a while to settle into normal range.

A book that is often recommended as a reference to all aspects of living with T1 is 'Type 1 Diabetes in Children, Adolescents and Young Adults' by Ragnar Hanas. Don't be put off if you don't fall in one of those age groups it's a really useful book to have at any age . If you do decide to get it make sure you get the latest updated edition.

Do ask any questions that come up as there is a wealth of friendly people on here with years of experience who will be happy to help, I wish you well 🙂

..... I think being 23 firmly places anyone in the 'Young adult' category doesn't it ? LOL

Welcome Jack. Reading the threads here will give you lots of information. Ask questions too
