Hi all,
I am a mother of a 12 year old type 1 diabetic. I just happened to come across this site by accident. We don't have any such forums setup here in Ireland which is shame. So far my daughter is managing her diabetes really well. She's great about it. She's on 4 injections a day. Unfortunately with the state of our health service she won't get a pump for another year or two in the clinic she's attending.
I wanted to join so I have someone to bounce questions off. I'm looking forward to getting some good advice from people who know what we're going through.

Welcome type1mum.

Have you got type 1 diabetes as well as your daughter? If not, then "parent" might be more appropriate in your profile.

Many parents find the "Children with Diabetes UK" email group very helpful - see http://www.childrenwithdiabetesuk.org/ Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be an Eire / Republic of Ireland equivalent, but they're friendly! Many parents can share experiences of children with pumps, although perhaps not the ROI specific aspects of healthcare. We have several adult members with diabetes from Ireland on these boards - more welcome!

Welcome to the forums type1mum 🙂

Hi Type1mum, I too have a daughter who was diagnosed aged 12. She started on multiple injection but due to control problems we were able to get a pump quite quickly. She has now just passed her 14th birthday and although she has been through some difficult times is now back to her normal happy cheeky self and loves her insulin pump. Welcome to the forum xx

Hi type1mum. Welcome 🙂

How long has your daughter been diagnosed ?

Rob

Type1mum hi and a warm welcome to the forum

I'm afraid being single and a Type 2 I won't know what you are going through.

But I can offer you a very warm welcome to this excellent forum, where I am sure you will get some good responses from those who do!

Andy 🙂

hi all

Thanks everyone. My daughter was 3 years ago. It was a shocker I can tell you as there is no history of it on either side but we are managing it well. I'll be browsing later to see what's in the forum already so I don't repeat any questions that may have already been answered.

Dont worry overly about repetition but always good to have a browse through. You may be inspired to think of even more questions ! :D

Rob

Hiya

Don't worry bout asking same questions, always worth repeating answers anyway for new arrivals as it were!

Nobody expects you to search through 3 years!

Hi and a warm welcome to the forum from me! 🙂

Hi Type1mum and welcome to the forum from me too.

You've had some good advice and comments so far so you don't need me to tell you what a great source of support you've found here. Have a read through the forums but feel free to ask anything you're not sure about. We will try to help as much as we can. XXXXX

hi and welcome i hope you will find the forum useful even though you are in ireland
