Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I am Squirrel, 53, from SE London. Been T2 since aged 40, on tablets, just started insulin. Think I messed up my body shape by having anorexia as a teenager then getting over it, gaining weight and becoming heavy round the middle. My sister is a year younger than me but doesn't have diabetes. My mum got pre-diabetes aged about 75, but she lost weight due more to her heart meds than actually dieting, and managed to reverse it. Her sister too was pre-diabetic aged about 80. She dieted and got rid of it.

My mum has a friend. We feel sorry for ourselves but when I do, I try to think of this lady. She had cancer and cannot eat at all. She is fed through a stomach tube. Could eat just liquids when she first got cancer but it came back. There is usually somebody worse off.

I am 53 from SW18 originally.. I think I messed up my body by living in it!
There are people worse off, no question about it. Doesn't mean you can underestimate what you are having to handle right now, but it gives a positive side to it.
First time I ever spoke to a squirrel! Hello.

On another forum when posters were complaining about a relatively minor annoyance that had happened (i.e the gas man didn't turn up on time) and they were seeking compensation they were always met with the retort ' so 3 people died today in a fire,50 people were made homeless, etc (whatever horrors had happened on that particular day) to emphasis the minuteness of their annoyance compared to the tragedies others had endured.
Usually no more would be heard from the posters.
Yes there is always someone worse off than we are.

Welcome from one squirrel to another!

People are gonna be guarding their nuts around here!

Welcome to the forum @Squirrel 🙂 Are you of the red or grey variety? 🙂 Hope the insulin helps you get things under control 🙂

Welcome to the Forum. Gosh your relatives did well to reverse their pre-diabetes at a late age. I reversed mine but it has gone up again. Goodness knows why - it is certainly not weight as I am underweight.
