Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi, I come from Indonesia and I can't found any online Indonesian diabetes support group, so I join here. I just found that I have DM at 350, after 5 days diet, my DM decrease at 154. I realize that I have to take care of myself, and withouth support group, it will be hard.

Welcome to the forum, marcellinamaria.

You'll have to help us a bit by writing words in full and stating units, as we use different abbreviations and units. Others may know, but I don't know what DM means?

How are you managing your diabetes - diet / exercise / weight control / medication etc?

Hi Maria and welcome to the forum.

I suspect Copepod the DM means diabetes mellitus, The numbers are blood sugar measurements.

Welcome to the forum.

A big assumption on my part and I am guessing that the numbers quoted are spot Blood Sugar checks and are in mg/dl. I think, to convert to mmol/L, which we use, you divide by 18?

So 350mg/dl equates to 19.4mmol/L and 154mg/dl equates to 8.5mmol/L.

So, if that is true, it looks like you have made excellent progress.

Andy 🙂

It's good practice to always state units, not just numbers. Surely everyone was taught that during science lessons in school?!?

Marcellinamaria is not the only person who just types numbers with no units. It's not much extra, but makes it so much easier for others to read.

In particular, numbers for HbA1c and capillary blood glucose numbers can be similar, but units are different, so stating them instantly tells which is being measured / stated.

They probably were, but I guess not everyone was paying attention at the time! :D But, seriously, the medical types often miss out the units when telling them to patients too.

Actually there's another thing which bugs me, especially in BBC reporting. They often have a tendency to mix their units, sometimes even in the same sentence. Along the lines of "Item A has an average length of 6 inches, but item B is 10cm longer than that" kind of thing.

Welcome to the forum marcellinamaria 🙂

I hope you find the support that you seek!

Hi Maria welcome to the forum, I hope you can find lots of information and all the support you need here to help you with your diabetes. Is diabetes not very common in Indonesia ?, I am surprised there is no support group, what kind of treatment are you on ? It is very interesting to find out how other countries treat diabetics, great to meet you TinTin
