I think I said hello a while back when I joined and then didn't visit the site for ages, so I'll reintroduce myself.
I'm Donna and I live in Cheshire. Type 1 for 25 years next month! Been on a pump since 2004.
I have a terrible fear of hypos and have had this for over 20 years so have kept my bg too high all that time and am suffering the consequences now. I have mild gastroparesis (delayed stomach emptying) and have had extensive laser therapy on my eyes, leading to my first Lucentis injection in November 😱 It was absolutely terrifying but now I've had one it isn't TOO bad. Luckily at my recent check there was some improvement so they are holding off another injection for a few months.
I am determined to get a handle on my fears now and get my HbA1c down (most recent one was 101 (11.4 in old money 😡)).
I was recently given a AccuChek Aviva Expert bg meter and it is really good (my pump is a bit old and doesn't do the bolus calcs like the fancy new ones so this does it instead).
Ok so that's me, feel free to say hello!!

Welcome Donna.

There's a Pumping section of this forum, but you're welcome to look / post anywhere. Other insulin users, with or without pumps, have posted about gastroparesis, eye lasering & injections etc.

Hope your new pump makes life better for you - some people with poor HbA1c levels have had their pumps removed and they've had to go back to MDI, so it's good that hasn't been forced on you.

Hi Donna, good to see you back with us again! 🙂 Sorry to hear about the problems you have had - hopefully with our help and support you can get to grips with things and really start to manage your diabetes well! There's always someone around, so if anything is troubling you, just let us know 🙂

Hi Donna,

Just a quick line to say well done for getting yourself sorted out.
It takes courage to confront what needs to be done and it's important to just look forward and deal with the current stuff and not focus too much on what could have been done before.
The Expert is very cool and hopefully it won't be too many years anyway before your due a replacement pump anyway.

All the best,
Dave

Thanks everyone
My current pump has just over a year to run so hopefully if I can keep improving over that time I will get a new Animas.
I'm working with a really good psychologist on the fear thing, and I rejoined my local DiabetesUK group a few months ago and met some pump users there who are very supportive. I'll keep you posted.

Hi Donna

Any idea which pump(s) you'll have the option of next?

M

I've just changed diabetes clinic. In Liverpool they deal with Roche so I currently have a AccuChek Spirit.
I'm now under Chester and they use Animas so I'll probably get a Ping (or whatever the latest one is by then) in about a year. I spoke to the diabetes nurse and she said she couldn't get me an Animas until my warranty with Roche was up.

Hi Donna,
Welcome from another pumping T1 from Cheshire.
There's so many wonderful people on this forum - with so much wisdom and support.
Good luck with addressing your fears and getting your HbA1c heading the right direction!
Julia

LOL we were talking about Animas pumps tonight on another forum - the Ping is only available in the USA. We get the Vibe now.

Welcome back Donna! 🙂

Welcome back Donna 🙂

Unfortunately Animas was a tad naughty in their adverting of the vibe and it's not the case of it's the vibe that's available. You can have the vibe if (A) you either pay the extra money for it or (B)your pct pays for it. It costs a fair bit more than the 2020 without the cgm. Vibe and 2020 are basicaly the same pump though and in all honesty nothing to get excited about :( But tonnes better than the old roche pump :D
