Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi all, my name is Danny I am 59 years old I have type 2 Diabetes and have been on metformin for around 3 months, I should have listened to doctors 5 years ago telling me was borderline but like a fool I ignored them.

Hi @zola116 and welcome to the forum.

Firstly, don't get stressed about it. I did listen to my GP and that is what caused my T2 Diabetes! He kept saying I needed to eat low fat, whole grains and 5 a Day. Once diagnosed I googled diabetes remission and did almost completely the opposite of what my doctor had told me, reversing my diabetes within months.

Most newly diagnosed have lots of questions, so don't be shy.
Ask away, but tell us a little about yourself (particularly medical conditions and medicines) so that we can give you the right advice on beating Diabetes. Because we're all different, but that's what we are about - beating diabetes our in own ways.

There is almost certainly something that will work for you, it's just a matter of finding it. Many of us find that a Low Carb way of eating (not a calorie restricted diet) is enough to get us into remission. With no hunger, little or no medication and no additional exercise. It can improve Diabetes, weight, blood pressure , water retention and other problems.

Hi zola116. Welcome to the forum you will get all the help you need on here these fellow diabetes certainly know what they are talking about when it comes to diabetes. If you get stuck on anything then talk to ianFOster he will help you as will Inka, Trophywench, Felinia, Pattidevans, Lucyr and Kaylz oh and Piglet the list goes on I am sorry but I can't help you as I know nothing I am just learning myself.

Hi @zola116 and welcome to the forum. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but don't beat yourself up, nearly all of us have been there.

If you have moved from the "at risk" zone into the "diabetes" zone then getting back again should be doable. Hopefully it will need a few lifestyle changes and a bit of determination. Read around the forum and check out the learning zone on the red tab above and you will begin to see what options you have and then work out a plan to suit you. Above all ask questions. No question is considered silly on here so fire away.

How did you come to be diagnosed and do you know what your HBa1c was?

Hi Docb. I was rushed into hospital with a suspected blood clot but when the paramedics arrived they asked if I was a Diabetic and I said no I wasn't why the paramedic then said it's because you're blood glucose level is sitting at 23.5 I then realised that's why I kept drinking and dashing to the loo. When I was in the hospital I found out that I had got blood clots in each leg and one in my lung. My last HBa1c was at 54 I think I know it was low as my Diabetic nurse had told a week after I joined Diabetes UK as I was struggling with things, now into September and I am still struggling with my life and Diabetes.
