Hi
So! My tale of woe! Two years ago I had a necrotic pancreas caused by a gall stone. I had a massive pseudo cyst and was fed through a tube for six weeks. I was briefly given insulin before they said I didn't need it. Two years on I am a bit blase' and my diet includes cake and chocolate - more than I should have. Then the bombshell a routine test reveals high sugar levels. Panic! In all honesty I have lost 2 stone 10 pounds by watching my diet, its just this last three months I was lax. So I was put on metaformin which brought my sugar level down, then six days later it was doubled because it was still high. I am so down about this. I had beast cancer four months before the pancreatic episode. I just got back into a new job, and now this! Is there someone out there I can talk to who has a similar history? I just feel so low.....

Hi @Bubbles and welcome to the forum. I'm sorry to hear you are feeling so low - and not surprised, it really sounds as though you have been through the mill lately.

We have several people here who have diabetes as a result of pancreatitis, or who have both diabetes and pancreatitits. So far as I understand it, diabetes caused by pancreatitis is effectively type 1 rather than type 2 (it's generally known as type 3c, but it should be treated more like type 1), so I don't think eating cake and chocolate would have made much difference to your getting it.

I don't know any more about it than I've read here though, so I'm going to tag some people who have it for you, as they will be able to give you a lot more advice - I just wanted to say hello. @mikeyB and @khskel and @eggyg are more likely to be able to help.

Welcome, sounds like you have had things a bit rough!! You will get loads of support here so try not to worry x

Hi there. It all depends on how well your pancreas is functioning. If your remaining insulin producing beta cells are giving up the ghost then you will probably be type 3c and as @TheClockworkDodo says the treatment is the same as T1, in other words insulin. A c peptide test may be helpful just to see how much insulin you are still producing.
