Hi just want to say hello have been lurking awaiting diagnosis. In a nutshell my hba1c has been tested 3 weeks apart 51 & 52, I have been feeling unwell for quite a while tired sick etc etc So was called in by d/nurse who said I needed to be started on metaformin, my body was sky high so she went into a different dr that initially run all the tests. Now I have been told to diet and retest in 6 weels. I’m so confused and worried as my mum was insulin dependent,

Welcome to the forum, as a lurker you must have picked up lots of information from people about the importance of reducing the amount of ALL carbohydrates in your diet. Your HbA1C results indicate you are only just into the diabetic range so some modifications to your diet in reducing portion size of high carb foods and increasing protein and healthy fats. I hope they will have given you the opportunity to make some changes for a few months before starting metformin.
Making a food diary will help to see where savings can be made.
I'm sure you will have picked up that some of the problem foods are bread, potatoes, cereals, rice, pasta, starchy veg, pastry as well as cakes, biscuits and sugary drinks and also snacks like crisps.
Have a look at the thread in the food forum to see what meals Type 2 folk have bearing in mind some people will be dietary managed and others on meds so the amount of carbs per day people have will vary as will their tolerance to different foods.
Giving a few examples of what meals you have will help people to make some suggestions for where substitutions can be made.

Thank you yeah I’m very aware of the carb etc, I have being doing a FODMAP to try deal with IBS it’s the tiredness is getting to me. Will try anything as I quite aware of the complications my poor mum had. I have dropped of the buns and cakes……my mixer will become redundant 😉

I have read of people no longer troubled by IBS when they go low carb - even though it is the exact opposite of what they have been told they need to do - sounds strangely familiar to a type two diabetic.
I eat mainly meat, fish, eggs and cheese, with low carb veges and am not short of energy.
You can still make low carb versions of things such as crackers in your mixer and batches of things to freeze.

Welcome to the forum @Lightenup

Congratulations on delurking 🙂

Hope you can find an eating plan which suits your BG levels alongside the needs of your IBS.

Has the FODMAP approach highlighted and particular triggers to your IBS? How do you get on with veggies? And dairy?

Hi Everyone thanks for the welcome, leeks, lentils, and dairy seems problematic, but I am getting to grips with it on my own and now with this diagnosis it makes everything seem a lot harder. On the upshot I have lost 3 lbs this week. So I suppose moderation and smaller portions are working.
