Hi folks,
I'm Lisa, I'm 32, married with 5 children, far too many pets, and very little in the way of a life outside that
I've just been diagnosed as type 2 diabetic today, fasting glucose level of 7.8 (so not too high). Wasn't too much of a shock, as I had gestational diabetes during my triplet pregnancy around 7 years ago, and I'm severely (morbidly..) overweight. Plus with PCOS and a family history of type 2.
I also (not connected to this) have mobility problems and chronic pain due to pelvic complications during that same pregnancy (SPD and sacroilliac instability that didn't clear up after birth). Add to that a hysterectomy at 27, and then an ovary removed nearly 2 years ago (the remaining one has a large cyst on it but they cant operate again), and you'll see why this is just another thing to worry about.
Should have listened to the docs really but now there's no going back so I need to get myself sorted out. I'm thinking of it as a huge kick up the backside. Not currently medicated, just got to drastically change my diet, have another blood test (or several should I say) and go back in a month with the results. Had my flu jab today too!
Anyhoo. Not as scared as I thought I'd be, just feeling very ashamed. I've not yet told my parents, dreading that.
Thought I'd pop on and say hello, I've been lurking and reading bits here and there over the last week while I was waiting for my results. Off for a closer inspection now.
Nice to meet you all 🙂
