Hi @batsman and welcome to the forum from another old guy who also walks 3 miles a day, sometimes with dogs

Hi Leadinglights , Thank you for your reply : I do have other issues as well as Type 2 but I will try to answer your questions.

I go swimming overy day during the week to loosen up my body and talk to my buddies at the pool.Arriving home I make my self a cup of black decaf coffee and have the first part of my breakfast that is fruit and then take the first bunch of my meds , a life long antibiotics , stomach pill blood pressure pills and a few other over the counter pills.I wait half an hour and have one slice of brown bread plus Metformin Slow release plus 6 gms
of steroids pills. In the evenings I have more Metformin Slow release pills.

I have had recent bloods tests for everything and all organs within specification. In the last 12 months I have lost 8 kgs . I am not on a diet but intake appropriately 2000 cals per day of food.My " water intake " is about 2 litres per day plus other fluids. I don't drink cows milk but reduce considerably other dairy products.

My meals are based upon a Mediterranean style foods with fresh fish / pork and plenty of fresh vegetables.

The real issues are my blood sugar levels that while are reducing are not good.

People are surprised that while taking steroids my weight is reducing.

I have the annual diabetic eye tests plus I go to the opticians on a 6 monthly basis to check my eyes.

I have been told by my osteopath that my doctor is reducing the dose of my steroids far to quickly.I understand that steroids play havoc with blood sugar levels.

I hope you have not fallen asleep buts that my story.

Not at all, as you say steroids can increase blood glucose or certainly make it harder, you are doing well not to put on weight. My other half was on steroids for a Crohn's flare up for 3 months and put on a huge amount of weight which he is struggling to lose.
If you don't need to lose more weight then making sure you have protein and healthy fats whilst keeping a watchful eye on your carbohydrate intake as it is all carbs than convert to glucose.
This is a link that many find useful to give them some ideas for meals and is based on a low carb approach, that is no more than 130g carbs per day not just sugar. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/

Hi , well I have been on steroids for approximately 18 months and my doctors practice records did not show I was on steroids.

The diabetic nurse wants to put me on insulin and they have no idea to what is causing my body inflammation.

The doctors chemist was supposed to contact me and total silence to discuss my medication

I have written to my doctor via the triage system to make an appointment to see him.( Again total silence )

I have worked so hard over the last 12 months to get back into shape and not having some surgery guessing to the new step on my magical mystery tour

I assume you were diabetic before going on the steroids but for some people the steroids will actually induce the diabetes. In some cases insulin can help when other medications are not managing to reduce blood glucose.
Some people will find tightening up on their diet can be sufficient but it is tricky to be managing multiple conditions, I assume you have had all the blood tests for inflammatory markers.

Hi , I have been diabetic for 10 years and no doubt a few extra years.

I have had a single blood test re the inflammatory markers and that came back positive. ( 15 ma nths ago )

It is very frustrating not to have a diagnosis of what is causing symptoms, somehow having that is more reassuring than being left in limbo.
I had a knee injury but was still in pain and discomfort 3 years later but having an MRI which revealed what was going on makes it easier to cope with.

Hi and welcome from me too.
Do you mind me asking what you take the life long antibiotics for? I know that at least one of our members has to take them due to removal of her spleen which made me wonder if you are in a similar situation and if so, what lead to the loss of your spleen and if that might be related to the cause of your diabetes? I am possibly adding 2+2 here and getting 5, but thought I would ask.
