Hi, I'm looking for help. I need to reduce my carb intake and am looking for ideas for breakfast food and evening meals that does not include bread potatoes or any sugars.

Am I OK with veg and fruit or should I be looking at reducing or removing them from my diet.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Welcome @JohnSen 🙂 You don’t have to remove every gram of carbs - in fact, to do so would be very difficult. Sticking to a lower amount of carbs should work.

Veg is fantastic and you definitely shouldn’t omit it. Fruit is usually ok in moderation if you choose well. Berries are a good low carb option.

Are you on any medication for your diabetes? That will partly inform your meal choices.

Many of us opt for a berry mix with Greek yogurt for breakfast, with a little granola or similar to give it some crunch. In my case it's a single Weetabix or the equivalent grams of oats in Overnight Oats. I found that I could continue with my usual evening meals as long as I swapped potatoes for cauliflower mash or celeriac mash, chips for celeriac chips, and rice for riced cauliflower. The meat and veg are as before.

As an example of how much difference a simple swap can make, if we have a rice dish my wife has a portion of long grain rice (58g carbs) while I have a portion of riced cauliflower (8g carbs).

Depending on what if any medication you are taking then reducing carbs to a starting point of no more than 130g per day so it is definitely not NO carbs.
Plenty of suggestions, menu plans and recipes in this link.
Many do find a good breakfast is full fat Greek yoghurt with berries (being the lowest carb fruit) with a small portion of a low sugar granola or cereal like All Bran or seeds and nuts. Other things are eggs in any form with bacon or mushrooms or tomatoes or smoked salmon with a small slice of toast.
The accompaniments to meat, fish, cheese and veg and salads to avoid or only have in reduced portions are rice, pasta. potatoes but there are some good substitutes.

Hi, I can’t eat anything carby too early or the glucose rise stays with me most of the day. So bread and cereals are a big no for me.
I also can’t face protein too early ( 6.30 am) so I have resorted to using keto bars with my morning cuppa. Supermarkets and Amazon do a range to suit taste. I find Kind Thins suit me.
A couple of hours later I will have eggs cooked in a variety of ways with and without veg and protein add ons.
I find I can eat a small portion of carbs with my evening meal without raising my glucose too much. I tend to stick to 60-80 carbs daily if I can but don’t give myself a hard time if I don’t. There are low carb bread alternatives but I haven’t tried any yet. Good luck finding your new norm.

@Taighnamona I assume you mean that you cannot eat meat and fish early morning. Keto bars contain protein, just not meat protein. It looks as if it is mostly provided by the nuts which contain more than 20% protein.
(Sorry to be pedantic.)

Always aim for accuracy and you are perfectly correct that there’s protein, mainly from nuts in these bars. The main point is that they are low carb and fit with my lifestyle. It may not be to everyone’s taste but I offered it up in good faith as an alternative to other suggested breakfast foods.
