Morning everyone. I've 6 kids and so far 2 are type 1.
One is now 22 but the second is just 11.

Hello!

Hi and welcomes. My kid is 12 and was diagnosed at 8. How old was your older child when diagnosed? I’m sure you’re an old hand at it all but we’re here to support you through the ups and downs.

Hi, the older one was 12 when he was diagnosed. He is away from home now and plans to travel next year so I hope to get some useful tips on here for him.

Welcome to the forum @csjjpm. Crumbs! sounds like you‘ve got your hands full 😳

Good to have you here.

How are they getting on with juggling life, BGlevels and all the rest?

Pens or pumps? Any snazzy sensors or hybrid loops?

I’ll tag in other parents @Bronco Billy @Sally71 @stephknits too 🙂

Crikey - I stress enough with one T1 and 2 kids. When were they diagnosed?

Welcome to the forum!

My older son was diagnosed in mid 2013 at the age of 12, a younger son was diagnosed in September this year.

My older son was one of the first to be on a Libre CGM trial but I can't remember when, maybe as far back as 2015/16. He has also had the Omnipod pumps since at least 2014.

My younger son was put straight onto the Dexcom 6, which is great, but the hassle was the limited range of phones that are compatible. A small price to pay for getting it free on the NHS. He has managed his dosing well but is not so good if he ever has to manually test, between replacement CGMs.

The first Dexcom G6 came off within a few days due to the adhesive not being strong enough so I got some Kovoq adhesive patches from Amazon which comes with a small plastic cover to protect the monitor. These work well but leave a black ring on the skin after 10 days of use.

My eldest has done brilliantly with managing his diabetes, my younger is doing well after just a few months.

I've signed the other younger ones up for the ELSA study at the Uni of Birmingham to see if they can detect any chance they may develop Type 1.
