My name is Nick (Young) and I have had Type 1 for nearly 30 years so like many have lived through and benefited from the improvements in technology and evolving approaches to managing blood sugar levels. One thing that has been a real help has been learning from others sharing their experiences.......so thank you to everyone for sharing.

I have always taken the approach it won't stop me doing what I want to do. I do a lot of exercise, some very intense and over long periods of time, I have recently retired but through out my career I spent a lot of time driving around the UK and staying away so learnt to deal with the challenges Type 1 bought to this. We also have a 20 year old son who was diagnosed at the aged of 8 with Type 1 - sharing our experiences and knowledge has been a real help for me and helped give him confidence as he grows up. I am still learning and very happy to share my experiences so far.

I am a great believer that a full and normal life can be lived and enjoyed with Type 1 and look forward to sharing thoughts and ideas with you all.

Happy Christmas!

Nick

Hello @Nick Young,

Thank you so much and to hear your wonderful journey! Feel free to share some of your experience with diabetes with the community and any issues you may have come across managing your own diabetes.

Hi Nick and welcome from me too.

I am a relative newbie at just 3 years coming up but the wealth of knowledge and experience on this forum has been key to me learning to manage the condition well, so your experience will be a welcome addition to that goldmine which I have almost daily dug into. Learning from people who face the same challenges is so very different from following the guidance of health Care Professionals and you soon learn how much variation there is between us despite all having the same condition. What works for one person may not work for another but knowing what to try helps you figure out what works for you as an individual.

I would be interested to know which insulin(s) you use and if you are on MDI or a pump and if you have Libre or CGM? The technology is amazing these days and will only get better. Libre makes such a massive difference to me both in improving my diabetes management but also my whole mental approach to my diabetes, which can be a really big issue with life long chronic conditions.

Anyway, I look forward getting to know you better and hopefully learning from your extensive experience.

Hi Barbara
Apologies for being so slow in responding. I have an Omnipod DASH, Libre 2 and use Novorapid. I agree on the new technology and would encourage anyone to embrace it when they have the opportunity to. It sometimes feels difficult to do as we all get comfortable with a way of managing things but each time I have done so it does help.
Nick
