Hi

My Name is Alyson or Ally for short and I have just been diagnosed as diabetic type 1 in the last few weeks after being admitted to hospital with a bug and my bloods being tested and coming out high

Still struggling with getting used to it and tonight freaked out when giving myself insulin.

I am the only person I know with type 1 diabetes however brother and mum both have type 2. My brother told me about this site and so far been a great help

Hi Ally, it does take a while to get used to it, like you i know nobody around me who is type1, my gran is type2! i can't blieve how much being on here has helped me, just seeing that other people feel the same as you and are going through the same kind of syuff and even better someone is always ready to give you advice,tips etc.🙂

well i was diagnosed 9 years ago now and in my family at the time no one else was diabetic. i felt so low and alone, my mum and partner both came with me to my appointments to see what they could do to help and also to learn to inject me to. i had good support but still went off the rails. now though im doing good and i feel great with everything. it can take a while to get used to a lot of the things we diabetics have to do but do continue with it as it gets so much easier.

well now in my family there is me who is type 1, my mum who is type 2 and my auntie who is also type 2 so i can chat to them if i feel something is going wrong, but these message boards are great for help and advice and to just generally chat on to.
