Hi everyone I'm a new member and hope to find plenty of good information on this forum and to share some of my personal info too. Tipster.

Hello Tipster65, welcome to the forum

Hi and welcome from me too

Would you like to tell us a bit about yourself and your diabetes here.... things like when and how you came to be diagnosed, what if any medication you are on and your HbA1c result is helpful to indicate where on the diabetic scale you are and therefore the most appropriate advice to give but in general the best course of action is to reduce your consumption of carbohydrates which includes both sugars and starches, so the obvious sweets chocolate, cakes and biscuits but also bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, pastry and breakfast cereals and go steady with fruit and particularly fruit juice. That may seem like there isn't much left to eat, but a low carb diet can be quite pleasant once you get your head around it. If you want suggestions for good low carb foods or meals, just ask.

Welcome to the forum, I hope you enjoy your time here and learn new things!

Hi every one thanx for the welcome .. I was diagnosed 2 years ago with type 2 when having a stent fitted.. my first ever hba1c was 53 then 57 and 58 and 58 .. I don't take any drugs as it's not what I believe in. After my last result of 58 my doctor wrote to me and said he was pleased how I was managing my diabetes, and to increase my Metformin from 1 tablet a day to two .... But I take none.. I am trying to reverse diabetes without medication and I know not everyone will appreciate or agree with my approach... But I am really interested in reading many many threads and how you are all managing .. I was 14 st 4lb and now have reached my personal weight target of 12st 7lb again only by life style and diet change.. regards tipster

Many congratulations on your excellent weight loss. There are many members here who prefer to take control of their diabetes and manage it through diet and exercise, rather than medication and some who have very successfully pushed it back into remission by that means, so you are in good company and I am sure we will be interested to hear any tips you have on the subject as well as sharing our combined wisdom.

Welcome and congrats on the weight loss.🙂

I gave up Metformin after 4 days - the only reason was, with extreme carbs control, I brought my BG levels way low and decided that this would give my body the best chance of recovering from insulin resistance rather than letting the Metformin reduce my insulin resistance.

I have still got lots of weight to loose but keeping BG as low as possible.

Hi and welcome Debbie

Hi, Tipster. Welcome.

If it's good information you're after you've come the right place.

Martin
I found this forum invaluable when I was first diagnosed with T2, and have managed to maintain HbA1c levels over the past year which would have been impossible were it not for the advice here...

Hi Martin your hba1c levels over the last year seem very good in fact I was lead to believe that hba1c under 40 is no longer classed as diabetic. Did you used to be a lot higher? Or am I being misled in my thinking. How did you lower your readings so well? Steve

As you can see my initial HbA1c was 77 and I went on a LCHF diet as advised by members here, I was around 2.5 stones overweight , I lost that by upping exercise and by following a strict 50-60g carbs/ day with the odd fasting day thrown in and didn’t have anything to eat after 6pm at night until the next morning .
I have relaxed a lot from this rather intensive regime and in the past few months I thought my HbA1c might have went up a bit, but to my surprise my last reading of 32 was the best yet.
I was initially on 3 x 500mg Metformin daily but have since reduced to 2 daily...
The advice of the people here helped me, as my Desmond course wasn’t offered until 7.5 months after diagnosis and by which time I thought, not worth it as I would probably be disagreeing with some of the advice offered.
So just by following advice from the members here, I seem to have this thing in remission, however I’m having more problems dealing with my High B.P which isn’t playing ball
Regards
M.
PS: what worked for me might not work for another individual, as we are all at different stages of the disease, and we are all different ...

@Anitram ,
You’re results are excellent, especially doing it without recourse to medication, and your initial starting point of 114,
You have reduced your HbA1c by more than I have, so Congrats to you...

Martin J

Sorry Martin I missed your initial 77.. but still well done ... I don't take Metformin but do take the herbal alternative berberine.. since my last hba1c of 58 i have decided to give up all sweets cakes chocolate and ice-cream with the exception of lindt 90% cocoa. (Apparently good for BP) within 3 weeks I lost another 6lb.. very hard cos of my extremely sweet tooth.. but after 3 weeks don't even think bout it no more.. hopefully January's hba1c will be lower than 58 🙂

I’m pretty sure it will be @Tipster65 ...

Hello @Tipster65 welcome to the forum.🙂 Being a T1D I can eat what I like as long as I count the carbs and inject the appropriate amount of Insulin but I don`t, I stick too a low carb diet its much easier to control BS`s and less Insulin. My HbA1c is presently hanging around 38 to 39, doesn`t mean too say I`m cured (I wish) but with the great help of this fantastic forum and my Health care Professionals (HCP) I have managed to learn control. Don`t always get it right but I give it a damn good go, its good you are trying to get your HbA1c down without medication and we wish you success. Take care my friend, you`ve done the right thing coming on board.🙂
