Hi everyone. I want to try to achieve remission. I have been a diabetic, suffering from diabetes 2 for over 20 years.
If anyone can help with advice and support, I would be really grateful.
Thanks

Hi
@abtastic, welcome to the forum
🙂 Are you on any medication for your diabetes? Probably the best advice is to put the past behind you and begin with a fresh start. I'd recommend having a read of
Maggie Davey's letter, which many people have found a very useful overview and starting point for turning their situation around
🙂 Are you able to monitor your blood glucose levels using a meter? If not, it's highly recommended, as this will provide invaluable information about food choices you tolerate well and those you do not
🙂 Start a food diary so that you can properly document your current situation, particularly the amount of carbohydrates you are eating. Using a meter you can then build up a clear idea of what you can retain in your diet and where you might need to seek alternatives or reduce portions of certain items. Read
Test,Review, Adjust by Alan S to understand how to do this methodically
🙂 If you don't have a meter then the cheapest option we have come across is the
SD Codefree Meter which has
test strips at around £8 for 50, which many of our members use (High St. brands can charge £25-£30 for 50 test strips). Even better if you already have a meter and have been unsure how to use it effectively, or if you can persuade your nurse or doctor to prescribe for you
🙂
Finally, if you can manage some regular, daily exercise that will be a big help
🙂
Please let us know if you have any questions, we're here to help, and happy to do so
