Hi all, I hope you're all doing well.

Just after a bit of advice really. I had an eye test on Sunday and they found cataracts in one eye. As I'm 43 they said I should see a GP. Finally got an appointment on the phone! After going round the houses I am booked for a test in 3 weeks' time. The problem is, the worry of all this isn't particularly nice, and it's affecting my stress levels, frame of mind, work and everything else! Am sure this sounds familiar to some on here!

So, my question is, are there quicker ways to be tested? I see Lloyds Pharmacy do some kind of test, but it's not 100 per cent clear on their website if it's a proper test or an advisory service.

Sorry to bother you all, and thanks in advance if anyone can advise me!

Cheers
Chris

I wouldn't stress about it, it's just cataracts. My sister had her eyes lasered and was fine, in and out. My Mum is waiting for hers to 'come down' so she can have them removed. We're all blase about cataracts around here. 🙂 You'll be fine I'm sure.

Hi Chris, welcome to the forum 🙂 Do you mean is there a quicker way to be tested for diabetes? If so, the fingerprick tests you can have at pharmacies should give some indication. My advice would be to try and get one done before you have eaten in the morning if you can manage it - this would give an indication of your 'fasting' blood glucose level. Normally, of your fasting level is 7.0 mmol/l or above then it would be considered on the high side and possibly diabetes, but other tests would then need to be done to confirm or dismiss the possibility.

Do you have any of the symptoms of diabetes - excessive thirst, peeing a lot, feeling tired?

If you do get diagnosed with diabetes, please don't worry. Although it is a serious condition it is something that can be managed well and does not need to cause you problems in the future. In fact, many people who are diagnosed find themselves feeling much happier and healthier once they have made the necessary adjustments to bring things under control - it's true! 🙂

Let us know how you get on and if you have any more questions or concerns, please ask away 🙂

Thank you Northerner. I'll seek out a fingerprick test while I wait for the doctor's appointment. Much appreciated. No other symptons, apart from tiredness, but that's just work and kids!

Hello chrisf. I know one or two people who have had cataracts done and they tell me if is very quick and straightforward. I am to hear you have them though.

My friend has one and it is due to her being on steroids for asthma I think.
