Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I was diagnosed type2 2 weeks ago was a shock and couldn't stop crying. I realized I had most of the symptoms and went to my local pharmacy they tested me there and then was 18.6 and told me to see the doctor same day then it was numerous appointments with the diabetic nurse she then put me on 40g 2 a day gliclazide was a bit of a struggle at first getting my sugar levels down at one point it was 27.3 for the past few days my levels have been under 10 and finally finding what I can and can not eat all thanks to this forum all the information has really helped me all the nurse said was eat healthy and excersice. I've found anything wholemeal doesn't agree with me or cereal my sugar levels rise a lot I've found a bread that works for me Warbutons high fiber protein from morrisons and it's lovely. I'm now coming to terms that I have diabetes and will be a regular visitor

Welcome. So much useful information from contributors to this site.

Hi Shosh69 and welcome. It's great you're already finding out what you can eat for best control.

Thank you Lindarose I would have been at a loss if it wasn't for all the information on here it has helped me so much feel I have achieved a lot in 2 weeks

I seem to be the only one that has tried the Warburton's high protein bread, & it spikes me to the moon!:( The chickens like it though.🙂

Hi Shosh...very similar numbers to mine when first diagnosed...haven't seen a diabetic nurse...little advice from GP...or local surgery...in some ways believe its better for me not to have had that kind of advice...not always the best and as you seem to have discovered it's more about what you can tolerate rather than just the standard advice dished out by the health care professionals...you find that out by testing...which you clearly are...I never touch cereal nowadays...always use high protein bread...Warburtons...or Burgen is fine for me...you've made a good start and as you continue to experiment you'll find it gets easier...I am now more confident I can manage my diabetes...weight going down...numbers now in single figures...good luck and well done.

I like a bit of kebab mest every now & then. Has no effect on me either. Good numbers, BTW.

Burgen is good, though around my way it is getting harder to find - Morrisons is one of the few places who stock it (not all of the time :( ) so when I find it I buy several loaves! I find Hovis Nimble is ok too, if a bit crumbly to butter...

Welcome to the forum, Shosh, you'll find loads of good info and support here 🙂

Thanks for all the info went to tescos and got burgen it's perfect and tasty will give hovis nimble a try next time
