Hi Veedragonrider, welcome to the forum
🙂 Very sorry to hear about your diagnosis
There is a lot to take in to begin with, but things do get easier as you gain experience. My first advice would be to get a copy of
Type 1 Diabetes in Children, Adolescents and Young People by Ragnar Hanas. It's absolutely the best book available about Type 1, and covers everything in a very positive, easy to read style.
What insulin have you been put on? Please ask any and all questions you may have - nothing is considered 'silly'! Hopefully, you will also have good access to your healthcare team in this early weeks and months to help guide you.
It can be very frightening and worrying to get this diagnosis, but with the right knowledge, effort and a bit of planning it doesn't have to stop you from doing anything. The good news (although it may sound odd to say it!) is that this is the best time in history to be diagnosed with diabetes - treatments are improving all the time, making it easier and safer to deal with than it has ever been. Many people here lead full, active lives and some have lived with diabetes for decades - try not to let it overwhelm you. Take it one step at a time, ask questions and write everything down (your meter readings, insulin doses and what you have to eat at mealtimes). You should also ask your team about what education courses are available to you.
Good luck, I look forward to hearing more from you.
🙂
