hi everyone my name is Scott, 28 just been diagonsed with type one diabetes, which im finding a lttle bit hard to come to terms with, my blood sugars are all over the place and having hypos daily, wich feel terrible, are dextrose tablets the best thing for a hypo??

Hi Scott,

Sorry to here that you're having a hard time of it, I'm sure you will settle down soon.

By the way you've done well to find this place, welcome aboard, a happy family here, come on and ask q's rant moan whatever, there's always someone around to help you through stuff.

Re Hypo treatment, somefind glucotabs better, can be found in Boots amoungst other shops, or lucosade/full fat coke, a lot of us hear also swear by jelly babies, or jelly beans, many often follow up fast acting sugar with something long term like a slice of bread or biscuit. Be careful not to munch too much of the stuff though, I used to drop low then munch for ages and end up really high!!

Hope to see you around,

Cheers

Rossi

Hi Scott, welcome to the forum🙂 I have dextrose tablets for hypos, but prefer jelly babies. I would normally have 2 or 3 JBs, then maybe a digestive if I wasn't due to eat a meal. As Rossi says, resist the temptation to eat too much! You need about 10-15 grams fast acting carbs to bring you up. Jelly babies are 5g each. Avoid things like chocolate as that won't bring you up fast enough - the fat in the chocolate slows the digestion.

Hi Scott, welcome to the forum. sorry you're having a bit of a tough time at the moment, hopefully with guidance from the right sources, including the ever-helpful folk on here, you'll soon be managing your diabetes with confidence.

xx
