I went to the Dr this morning to get results, she won't confirm at this point as I have to go back this Monday. I have to fast again have bloods taken wait in the surgery for two hours and have a sugery drink. As I was having a quick look at some posts I noticed one that said tired and thirsty, I have been both, is that a symtom? I never mentioned it to the Dr I thought the tiredness was due to my age, approaching 60.

Thank you.

Hi Scotia, welcome to the forum 🙂 Yes, tiredness and thirst are symptoms of higher than normal blood sugar levels. The test on Monday is called an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), and it will show how well your body can deal with the sugary drink. Try not to worry about it - nothing is confirmed yet.

If you do get a confirmed diagnosis, don't panic - it's not the end of the world! Diabetes, although a serious condition, is something that can be managed well and does not have to have a negative impact on your life. You may need to make some adjustments to your diet and activity levels, but these are generally the kinds of things everyone should be doing - whether they have diabetes or not! Many people find that they actually feel much healthier and happier once they have got things under control 🙂

Do let us know how you go on, and you are free to ask any questions you may have - nothing is considered 'silly', and we will be happy to help! 🙂

Thank you very much for a quick reply. The information you gave me was helpful.
