...... 'nother newbie here!

Was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes last week, which came as no great shock really, given the symptoms I've been having lately.

Feel a bit 'out on a limb' though, as I was advised by my doc to see the Diabetic Nurse for lots of info and help re diet etc, but there is no clinic at my GP Centre now until September. 🙄

So I'm on my own for a month, with a sugar level that is way high (19.5 after fasting) and a couple (or 5 stone) to lose. I've had to rely on the internet for food advice, and BOY is that confusing!! Loads of conflicting advice.

This isn't gonna be easy, lol.

(I'm quite a jolly person really, believe it or not!!) :D

Hello and welcome to the forum , if you need anything just ask and someone will be able to help or point you in the right direction. Dont be hard on yourself a week is no time at all , give yourself longer than that. All of us diabetics are learning something new everyday. as you will soon find out no two days will be the same .

hi and a warm welcome helen , anytime just ask away we are all here for one a another x

Hi Helen, welcome to the forum!🙂 You get an awful lot of information all at once and it's hard to take in and sort out what's important. It's worth maybe taking a look at Diabetes UK's website - they have sections on diet and treatments and what to expect. You may also like to look in the 'recommended books' section - I believe there is a highly recommended book 'Type 2 diabetes, the first year' by Gretchen Becker that might give you a good grounding and maybe prompt some questions you can ask ahead of your appointment.

Lots of friendly folks here - don't be afraid to ask anything you're not sure about!🙂

Thanks everyone, definitely need to read up about everything!

Hey HelenP!

Really nice to have you on board and a very warm welcome!

I really hope you can access some information and support through either the DUK website ( a good place to start) and from the forum. Use the search tool and explore some of the threads, there is plenty of discussion that could get you more familiar with diabetes. I hope you find it supportive and also allow some time for yourself to adjust to your diagnosis too. I am sure in no time Helen your chirpy fun side will return!

Take care and enjoy the forum xx
