Hi there, I'm 32 years old and was diagnosed with type 2 a month ago, the same day my hubby and I moved house! Its been quite a month adapting to so many changes. I'm a real cake and chocolate addict so since being diagnosed I've had to go cold turkey as I have no will power when it comes to sweet things. :( I've thrown myself into cooking new healthier reciepes which has helped me cope and feel more in control. I've attended an NHS educational day, staying active and testing twice a day. My husband and friends have been so supportive that I've been determined to just do what I need to do and stay upbeat even when I feel ill. Today I started metformin and also recieved a leaflet in the post about pre preganacy support (before being diagnosed we were hoping to start trying) All of a sudden it all feels very real and today I feel off colour from the tablets and a generally a bit low. Perhaps this is normal? Anyhow enough about me I'm looking forward to getting to know some of you and contributing to the forum. 🙂

Hello Chattygirl, welcome to the forum. Recently diagnosed myself. You will find plenty of support and help on here from the more experienced guys, and its a nice friendly forum.

Welcome to the forums Chattygirl 🙂

There is a page of really useful links that can found here: http://www.diabetessupport.co.uk/boards/showthread.php?t=10406

The Gretchen Becker book is really useful!

The Metformin generally make your tummy feel uncomfortable, for most people that passes after a month or so. But some are unable to tolerate.

Ask any questions, it's very friendly around here :D

Hi chattygirl, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but good to see that you have made such a positive start in getting to grips with it. I think we have all felt like you do at one time or another - the realisation dawns on people at different times, and no doubt you've had a lot of other things on your mind since diagnosis. The good news is that diabetes is a condition that can be managed well with the right knowledge and determination, and many people find they are much healthier, fitter and happier than they were prior to diagnosis as they adapt to a new healthy diet and lifestyle 🙂

I'd suggest having a look at some of the links in our Useful links thread, and let us know if you have any questions 🙂

Welcome to the forum

Welcome to the family..................😉

Hi Chattygirl and welcome to the forums, although I'm sorry you had to get your diagnosis in order to join our merry band. It looks like you have the right attitude and a supportive hubby and medical team. Good to see you are testing your levels too. As has been said, the Metformin can make you feel a bit yukky til your system gets used to it. Also, as your glucose levels get lower you can often feel worse before you feel better. If you carry on feeling bad, go back to the docs and tell him as there are alternatives. I look forward to getting to know you better. Take care. XXXXX

And another hello 🙂

Lots of collective wisdom here from long term D's - and other newly Dx'd (diagnosed) too that you can rant with.

Ask any questions that crop up. Pretty sure someone around here will know something about it (or know where to look!)

Welcome chattygirl. There are lots of members who are also type 2. You sound as though you are doing all the right things. I hope you start to feel a bit better soon. Best wishes Sheena
