Hi, I hope you don't mind me posting here as I do not have Diabetes, but my Husband does. He was diagnosed last November, he fell off his scaffold tower, I had to call for an ambulance, the paramedics did a blood test and discovered his blood sugar was 30, it was a heck of a way to find out, especially as he had had regular blood tests for Cholesterol, and had presented his Dr. with classic diabetic symptoms, it turned out he had been tested for diabetes but his Dr, missed it :(
Anyway, hopefully we can learn a few do's & don't's from you guys, looking forward to chatting with you all 🙂

Hi, welcome to the forum 🙂 You are very welcome here! What a way to find out 😱 You don't say whether he is Type 1 or 2 - is he on any medication?

I'd suggest you have a look at our Useful links thread which has lots of good links to information, and Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker is considered an ideal first book is Type 2. If Type 1 then the book to get is Type 1 Diabetes in Children, Adolescents and Young Adults by Ragnar Hanas - excellent whatever your age!

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have and we will try our best to help out 🙂

Hello and welcome! Of course we don't mind you posting here, if you have questions please ask us and we do our best to help, nothing is considered silly either! I can't believe your Dr missed the diabetes, maybe it wasn't so obvious then. I would assume from the very high blood sugar reading that your hubby is type 1? What medication is he on?

Hello Godivagirl and welcome to the forums.

Of course we don't mind you joining here. All are welcome and we have a few members who don't have the dreaded D themselves but who have loved ones who do. Sorry to hear about your hubby's diagnosis, and the mix up leading up to it.

You have found a good place here though for help and support. There's a wealth of information and experience to draw on. Ask what ever you want to know, nothing is considered silly or trivial. We only know what we know after all.

A couple of questions to you first, is hubby Type 1 or 2? Has he been put on any mediacation? I look forward to getting to know you better, and hubby too if he decides to join us. Take care. XXXXXX

Whoops... sorry, I forgot to say he has type 2, at first he was put on Metformin and something else, sorry I can't remember but it started with G, recently he has been put on Janumet.

Thank you so much for the lovely welcome, we really do need someone to talk to, its a huge learning curve

The G one is probably Gliclazide. I'm on that and Metformin too. Is he testing his own blood sugar levels? If so what are they like? You are right it is a huge learning curve. You will get the help you need here though. XXXXX

Hi there and a warm welcome to the forum x lovely to see your on here caring so much for your hubby

Yes it was Gliclazide, thank you Blythespirit 🙂
He does test regularly, when he was on Metformin his blood sugar was very low, now on the janumet it's often 10 or over

Thank you Northener 🙂
He tests before Breakfast and again before the evening meal, and then a couple of hours after. He doe's this once or twice a week.

Does he exercise? It is so beneficial for your overall blood sugar levels if you can do some regular daily exercise 🙂

Welcome to the forums GodivaGirl 🙂

Hi. Lovely to see you joining the forum and looking after hubby - maybe he could post too? 🙂

He hasn't been able to exercise for about a month now, he has a trapped sciatic nerve, very painful!! His job is pretty strenuous, he's a window fitter.

Thank you Mark and Lucy 🙂 I will give him a shove in this direction, and try and get him on here :D

Welcome to the forum. Having a supportive partner makes it so much easier to deal with diabetes, your husband is lucky to have you
