Hi everyone.

Welcome to the forum. This time last year I felt bewildered and grief struck. I then joined the forum and things improved.
What would you like reassurance, advice and information on? You are usually diagnosed by 2 hba1c. tests. 48 or above signals diabetes. 42 to 47 is often referred to as prediabetes eg change your ways.
I thoughti was being tested as I was having an annual blood test to review hypertension. However unbeknown to me they stopped testing ten years ago.
Do you want to share how you found out and what you hope to do aboutit?
I cut a lot of bad stuff between tests as the HCP was focusing on cholestral which had gone over 4. I asked for the diabetes test. At that stage I had a bmi of 32 and was peeing a lot so the result shouldn't have been a surprise but the 69 was. The next test was 64 and I lost a stone before being put on medication. For me being careful with carbs works. I was eating between 100 and 120 but because of a change in medication I sometimes eat more. I have also made the effort to move more especially short walks and an aqua fit class.
Even if you are not overweight you probably have belly fat.
All carbs turn to sugar. If you buy packaged food look under nutrition.
Finally this nhs site has good info including on left hand side links to good web sites.

Hi @samwitch9 (Sam) yes it can all be a bit bewildering when first diagnosed, so please feel free to ask as many questions as you wish and there will be many I'm sure.
A good starting point is for you to tell us what your hba1c score was when diagnosed T2 as this will give members an idea of how to best help and advise

Alan 😉

Hello and welcome. I've told my story about my initial diagnosis before. Even though I had gone for the test because I suspected that I had diabetes and was not surprised by the diagnosis, collecting the initial prescription floored me. I wish I had discovered the forum then but I did discover a book describing the first year of diagnosis of type 2. It reassured me that feeling overwhelmed was a normal reaction.

If you are asking questions, it's always best if you give as much information as you feel comfortable giving.

Welcome to the forum Sam. It's perfectly normal to feel bewildered and a bit overwhelmed when you are told you have diabetes.

Although my doctor and practise nurse, who monitors type 2s registered with them, were kind and helpful, they couldn't answer all my questions. I was directed to the Diabetes UK website and this forum.
Like most people before diagnosis I was woefully ignorant of living with diabetes and what I could do to help myself.

I found the good people on this forum very helpful and supportive. They really get what living with diabetes means and are happy to share experiences and suggestions.
Don't be afraid to ask any questions, nothing is considered silly or irrelevant. We have all been there as a newbie.

Welcome to the forum @samwitch9, this place is full of great knowledge and we’re all a friendly lot , so ask whenever you want to know

Welcome from me also, if you give a little more information about you diagnosis then we can point you in the right direction that will hopefully help you as what will be suitable will depend on your Hba1C result and if you have been prescribed any medications.

Hello mate

I got diagnosed three months ago and am still trying to find my way around

Hello @samwitch9 and a very warm welcome from me 🙂. There is indeed so much to get your head around when first diagnosed but so glad you decided to join us as hopefully you'll find it a great place for help and support.
