At risk of diabetes
I have just been diagnosed with prediabetes and only joined the forum a few days ago. It is very interesting and full of lots of useful advice and learning material. It is nice to know that this forum exists for everyone in the same boat. I have other health conditions but this is one I can make the changes in my life and hopefully reduce my weight and send the diabetes into remission. I am 68 years old and still work part-time, I was a nurse now a care assistant. I enjoy walking and exercise at home. Any help and advice is welcome. Thank you for listening and reading. Valerie

Welcome, I was in the position of having just crossed the threshold into diabetes 4 years ago but by making some dietary changes and adopting a low carbohydrate approach based on the principals in the Freshwell program I reduced my HbA1C back to normal in 3 months and that has become my new normal way of eating. There is plenty you can still eat and still have enjoyable tasty meals. Here is the link which will give you some good ideas. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
Low carb is regarded as being no more than 130g carbs not just sugar per day, it is not NO carbs.
The book or app Carbs and Cals is a good resource giving portion sizes and carbs for a whole range of foods. It was and still is my bible for checking carb, but also the internet, shop web sites will give the carbohydrate values in the nutritional information which is easier than squinting at the packets in the shop.

Hi and welcome, keep us updated on your progress, check out the learning zone, etc, although as a nurse, you may already have the basics covered!

@Val187 welcome to the forum and I am sure that with the support available here, you will achieve getting to a position where your diabetes is well management.

Hi, thank you. I have covered a lot of the learning zone topics that I have found ao far. I try the MOT but can't find anything to do there. Even as an ex nurse I can still learn new things and welcome improvement to a healthy diet and lifestyle.

Great to hear you have leapt into the Learning Zone @Val187

Often people who have been told they are at risk of diabetes (sometimes called pre-diabetes) only need to make relatively modest tweaks and changes to their menu to have a significant impact 🙂

Thank you for the reply. I have been making some adjustments to food intake and diet. I found some nice recipes from here too. I enjoy walking and exercise. So I hope I can get back to normal in time.
