Just thought I'd pop in and say hi.

My latest blood test came back last week with a HbA1c recording of 56 after a few years of being pre diabetic. Even though I was expecting the results it has still knocked me so it's now time to get things back on track. The old days of far too many takeaways and alcohol intake are over and now it's the 5 2 diet and all the vegetables. It's time to lose the weight (I'm quite a big chap) and do some exercise starting with being more mobile so planning on walking daily.

I'm hoping not to be here long (in the nicest possible way) as I'm desperate do whats needed to get back to my old self before diabetes knocked on the door. I'm ever so grateful that this community and resource exists as I was beginning to feel a bit isolated. The meal ideas and inspiration is fantastic - thanks for raising my spirits today.

The 5 2 fasting dietary regime works for some but still worth looking at some of the other options in case that would suit you better. The information in the introduction of the Freshwell program is very useful so have a look at that and some of the recipes and menu plans may it in with what you are embarking on. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
It is all about reducing carbs in your diet and if you can increase your exercise all to the good.

Hi @Jaypea and welcome to the forum. Your hbA1c results are not too high in the diabetes range so more activity and changes to your eating habits should help you get your blood glucose levels down again. There are plenty of people who are now in remission who still post on the forum to share information and advice with other members, particularly newbies like myself.(I count myself as a newbie still as I was only diagnosed earlier this year)

Thanks for the replies.

The low carb websit is very interesting, thanks @Leadinglights definitely a lot there to digest. I think I'd rather eat normally (albeit low carb) than starve for 2 days a week so that website could be really useful.

Hi @Jaypea and welcome to the forum.
HbA1c of 56 is by no means off the scale and should be manageable with the right regime of Diet, Exercise and weight management.
For me it was low carb (less than 130gms per day) and low calorie diet (less than 1200 per day) and more exercise

I managed a HbA1c of 51 to 46 in 3 months, so diabetic to pre diabetic.

When is you next blood test

Alan 😉

Welcome @Jaypea considering my HbA1c was 86 means that 56 is not a bad result at all, so the exercise and diet approach is probably not a bad approach. Certainly my blood letting tests are showing some improvement in my day to day range. Different measure but I believe that like @Alan44 my next blood test should show a good improvement in my HbA1c.

Welcome to the forum @Jaypea

And glad you have found us!

Diabetes can be isolating and overwhelming, so it’s great that you have connected with others here. It can be so helpful to be able to consult the forum ‘hive mind’ for a range of different options, strategies, and ideas. Diabetes can be annoyingly fickle and individual, and there’s no ‘one size fits all’ approach that suits everyone, so finding a set of strategies that work for you, and that you can sustain long term is a great way forward.

Good luck finding a system that works for you 🙂

JayPea - you have got this being on here shows that - cut all the shite out and go Low Carb - loose the weight slowly increase the exercise a step at a time. I had a HbA1c of 81 in Aug just had my 3 month HbA1c and am waiting on the results - I am aiming for a 48
