Hi everyone, I’m a newbie so thanks for accepting me. I was diagnosed with Type 1 in 1971, aged 10, and currently using Omnipod with (temporarily I hope) Novo-not so-rapid. I was happily using Humalog until the worldwide shortage kicked in a month or so ago. Anyone else struggling with the 3hr pre-bolusing and massive blood sugar drop about 2hrs later?? Not enjoying Novo at all at the moment. My graph looks like a rollercoaster :-(

Hi, welcome.
Bads news regarding humalog, it seems more and more medicines are becoming harder to source for some reason!

I didn’t understand your comment about 3hr pre-bolusing with the novorapid. Could you expand on that?
I use novorapid injections but on the list for a pump in the future.
Depending on the food 15-30mins pre bolus is usually sufficient and 2hrs is the peak release.

Welcome to the forum @Mileygal

Sorry to hear you aren’t getting on so well with NotVeryRapid.

Weirdly, I switched from NR to Humalog a few years before moving onto a pump, and found them not dissmilar in terms of dose size and speed of action (both more or less equally sluggish to get going). But for me it was Humalog that seemed to have more of a ‘sting in the tail’.

Just goes to show that different insulins suit different people!

We have some pump users who’ve been having a hard time getting vials of Humalog, but they are able to get pen cartridges and fill the pump reservoir from those.

I thought pen cartridges weren’t affected by the shortage?

As an alternative to NR, have you considered Apidra? It’s an older slightly-faster-acting insulin. I think @Pattidevans uses it in her pump and gets on well with it.
