Hi Everyone, just been diagnosed type 2, my mother was type 1 at 50 and my brother type 2 at the age of 40, so at nearly 60 type 2, hey ho that's life xxx
Hi @rolofloppy1 sorry to read about your diagnosis. You’ve come to the right forum for support. I don’t have much experience myself, but I’m sure someone will be able to advise you should you have any questions or concerns.
Welcome to the forum
Would you like to say a bit more about your diagnosis, were you getting symptoms which prompted you to see your GP. What was your HbA1C result as that will indicate how much work you need to do to get your numbers back to normal, it is not inevitable that you will have diabetic levels for good.
Have you been prescribed any medication and been given dietary advice as that part of the equation is sometimes sadly lacking.
With diabetes in your family you may have a good idea of what is needed but ideas have changed about the power of a low carbohydrate regime for managing to reduce blood glucose and help with weight loss if needed. Have a look at this link for some ideas for modifying your diet. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
This may suit you but may depend on what if any meds you have been prescribed.
I am third generation type 2as well, mine since age 21, diagnosed younger than the older generations, mine was triggered by an eating disorder.
Well to a fabulous place for support and friendship!
