Hi everyone just introducing my name is Huw , My Job is a HGV Driver I have type 2 diabetes I have had Diabetes for quite a few years now , my basic problem is trying to eat properly while carrying out my daily routine on the road , Had a bit of a talking too off my Doctor today as my numbers are creeping up .any advice would be helpful thanks

Welcome @Huw Hiab 🙂 Are you on any medication for the diabetes? My tip is to be prepared and pack healthier choices. If you do the same routes, you could also find some better food choices in local supermarkets and always go for them.

Welcome to the forum
It is difficult when you are on the road but rather than having high carb foods from cafes and take away stuff try to take a meal with you which would be lower carb. A box of salad with cheese, tuna, cooked meats, eggs, coleslaw or soups or casserole in one of those food flasks.
Are you on any medication as that may impact on what would be a good dietary regime for you to adopt. If only on metformin then the approach in this link would be suitable https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/ but in any event it may give you some ideas for modifying your diet.

Yes thank you for replying yes I am on Metformin I do tend to stick to the same route throughout the day but the local supermarket’s are not really built for trucks but I will have to persevere a bit more It’s just that Greggs & the like are just so handy !!!

Handy but definitely not your friend @Huw Hiab ! Remember that every time you’re tempted. You deserve better food than that. Ignore their siren call.

If you can’t shop in a supermarket, you’d be better off taking your own food. Tastier and cheaper too.

Thank you for the link will definitely have a look aft that just had a bit of a wake up call today will need to look after myself a bit better

Good luck with finding some healthier and more satisfying (and most likely cheaper!) alternatives @Huw Hiab

Many folks on the forum are amazed by the positive impact that eating better can have. Tastes adapt and change fairly quickly, and lots have found that as their levels improve and their bodies get better and more complete nutrition all sorts of other ailments are vastly improved and they get real boosts of energy and well being. Sometimes you don’t realise how weary and lethargic you’ve been feeling until that lifts. 🙂
