I must admit it is great to have a forum that can empathize, advise and discuss the various issues around diabetes as a whole. I can't believe it took me so long to find you.

Hi @TishyT1 . Welcome to the forum. It took me a few years to find this place too.

Welcome to the forum @TishyT1 .

I find this a great place to ask about the practicalities of managing D, as well as keeping up with recent tech developments. If I have read the title of your thread correctly you will have seen many changes over the years, unless you mean you were diagnosed with T1 aged 53. In which case snap.

Hello Tishy and welcome.
Yes, it is a great forum.
I have learnt so much on here, and for most problems and issues there is somebody that know the answers.
Hope that you enjoy being a member, and you probably have some knowledge and experience that you can contribute as well.

Hello and welcome Tishy.

Hi Tishy, welcome to the forum 🙂 Where have you been for the past 11 years? 😱 🙂 I look forward to hearing more from you 🙂

I on the other hand found it the best part of sometime ago but to begin with there were a lot more T2s than T1s. Well that's always going to be the case cos there ARE more of them anyway - but I couldn't really relate since I had so little knowledge of T2 at the time. They may as well have had beri beri !

Eventually the forum started to change though and it's helpful and useful for everyone by now plus it's a lot more use than eg 111 when you have some other health problem - cos there's just so many people on here now somebody will most likely have knowledge of most chapters of the medical dictionary!

Not beri beri though ………. so far!

Hi and welcome from me too.
I was diagnosed just under a year ago and have found this forum invaluable in helping me get the right diagnosis and come to terms with adjusting my diet and learning to manage my condition. Just starting to get more confident with adjusting my insulin doses and trying to improve my control.
How are you managing yours? Which insulins do you have and have you been on any courses (DAFNE (Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating is brilliant if you haven't done it and can get a place on one and even the most seasoned diabetics have found that it has helped them improve their control) or tried any of the latest technology like Libre or a pump?
Anyway, I hope you find this forum as beneficial as I have and I look forward to perhaps learning from your extensive experience with diabetes.

Welcome @TishyT1 , glad you found us. 🙂 It took me a while to join the forum after lurking for a while. It’s helped me so much.

How have things been for you? Are you using a pump or MDI? There’s a wealth of experience on here- now with an added 53 years! 🙂

Welcome to the forum! Glad you have connected with us @TishyT1. Look forward to hearing more of your story.

We’ve a few members with 50+ years of T1 under their belts, so you are in good company 🙂

Hi everyone. Thanks so much for the welcomes.
Actually I was diagnosed in 1966. I had a
plastic case with a glass syringe and 'huge' needles that my Dad used to sharpen with a grindstone!
Still foraging on the site for information as at this point I could really do with some help.

Hi again Tishy.
Feel free to just ask if you need help with something rather than searching. The great thing about a forum is that in asking a question, many of us learn from it, so it is a community benefit and there are plenty of extremely experienced and knowledgeable members of the forum who should have some answers for you or at least suggestions for things to try.

It is amazing how much things have improved in the past 50 years and I consider myself very lucky to be diagnosed so late in life, when medicine and technology have improved so much, even though I am a bit of a technophobe.
