Hi ChrisB, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear that the gliclazide didn't work for you, but don't despair! Insulin is often considered the 'last resort' for Type 2, but that doesn't mean it's because it's terrible and frightening - in fact it is probably much simpler and more flexible than many of the other medications that often come with so many horrible side effects.

Do you know what insulin you will be going on? If you are worried about injecting yourself, then don't. The needles used are tiny, you inject just into the skin, not a vein or muscle or anything, and it rarely hurts at all because the needles are so short and fine.

What sort of levels have you been getting? If you have any questions, please ask away and we will try our best to help 🙂

Hi ChrisB, Welcome to the forum. Plenty of helpful people in here, so don't be afraid to ask lots of questions. Chances are someone either knows the answer, or can direct you to another source of information.

I too was on Gliclazide for several years but it stopped working for me. So I was put on Byetta (Exenatide) which is injected twice a day. However, this made me very sick so the Diabetic nurse has now put me on insulin twice daily injections. I am on NovoMix30 which is a mixed insulin. The injections are in fact less painful than the finger pricks for testing your levels. The pen needles are very fine and only 5mm long, and I guarantee you will not feel the injection. If you are anything like me, you will feel much better on insulin.

Best wishes

Thanks everybody for your replys, i have been really interested in hearing what you have experienced so far and must confess don,t feel so anxious now. dont know which insulin I'm to be given yet my bloods have varied form 3 to 20+ its seem to be a lottery at the moment tablets just not working. I also suffer from severe neuropathy in both feet and legs and have heart desease. I take a lot of medication over 24 hours which does'nt help I guess.
Waiting now to see consultant.
best wishes to you all
Chris

Hello and welcome. I know how you feel. Gliclazide stopped working for me recently and I was put on insulin (Novomix) twice a day in early May. I was really, really terrified of injecting BUT have taken to it like the proverbial duck to water. It's not a problem at all - I actually can't feel the needle AND I feel heaps better - more energy etc. etc. The biggest bonus is that the blood sugar levels are much better - so much so that my nurse doesn't want to see me again until October. It is a big scary step, but worth it. All the best.
