This is my first post so I hope it makes sense.

I have recently started injecting Lyxumia in conjunction with my tablets (Gliclyzade and Metformin).

The thing is I now find myself sometimes having to increase my sugar intake because my test readings are lower than they should be. It's only been a problem since I started the Lyxumia.

Does anyone else have a similar problem with this drug?

Many thanks

Catman

Hi catman, welcome to the forum 🙂 I don't have any experience with the medication, but I think you need to let your GP know that perhaps it is working too well for you if you need to boost your levels with extra sugar to counteract the effects. What levels are you getting?

My levels vary between 7 and 12 throughout the day but after using the injection I have had levels of less than 4 and I start to feel "wobbly".

I had a call from my diabetes nurse and she is recommending I reduce my gliclizade intake if my levels drop too low so I'll try that.

Incidentally, the Patient Info leaflet with the injection pen suggests there might be an issue when using it with metformin, but not gliclizade and I'm taking both.

I think the drug is quite new because my GP had no experience of its use.

Will keep you posted.

Sounds a good strategy to lower the gliclizide, I hope it helps you to better and more stable levels 🙂 I'd suggest making sure you always carry something sweet e.g. jelly babies, in case you drop low - one or two should raise your levels and get rid of the symptoms 🙂

Sorry, can offer no useful advice, but wanted to say hello and welcome 🙂

No advice from me either I'm afraid, just a hello and welcome and I hope the hypos have calmed down for you 🙂

welcome to the forum looks like the best advice has already been given - good luck

Hi Catman. I have just registered with this site specifically to answer your query re Lyxumia. Like you I found that my sugar levels were dropping severely after injection and found, through record-keeping and some very good support from my local healthcare team, that WHEN you take it is most important. I was advised to inject before my Main carb-containing meal of the day, whether it be lunch or dinner. It varies depending on which meal I eat most carbs at, so time of day is unimportant. And Lo! no more wobblies, and better BG levels!!
Hope this has been helpful to you. good luck 🙂
