Hi, decided its time to sign up & say hello.
Am finding my diabetes a challenge at the moment.... diagnosed in 2009 with type 2 & trying to live with it.
Good to join an established community with lots of experience. Thank you!

Hello Carole, welcome to the forum.
Yes there are many years of experience available on the forum, and I hope some of it can be helpful for you.
Can you tell us a bit more about yourself? Do you know what your most recent blood sugar reading are? and are you following any particular eating plan at present.
If you browse around the forum you will find many different areas of interest. May be a good place to start is
useful-links-for-people-new-to-diabetes. (scroll down to type 2)
Are there any particular things you would like to know more about?
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the forum.
I am also a Type 2 and follow a low-carb diet, but there are many other choices, and everyone need to find what is right for them.
Best wishes, and please keep posting.

Hi and welcome @Tilly26 - so glad you joined us. Why are you struggling at the moment? Anything in particular that's changed for you in recent months to make you feel challenged by all this? Any info would be useful, but of course we dont want to pry so please feel free to offer as much or as little as you are comfortable with, Just rest assured we are all here to help you. There are many and varied topics on here, and links to sites that maybe as @Toucan says, you will find useful. Have a little poke around and see if anything grabs your interest. I hope we can help you get to the bottom of whats troubling you at the moment.

Hi Carole and welcome from me too. Make yourself at home here. It is a great community with a huge amount of experience and knowledge of living with and managing diabetes, so I am sure you will get some helpful tips.

Are you on any medication at the moment and if so, what? Also telling us your most recent HbA1c will help us to know where you are on the diabetic scale and therefore tailor our advice accordingly. I am a type 1 diabetic but I also follow a low carbohydrate higher fat (LCHF) way of eating to help manage my diabetes and would advocate trying that if you haven't done so yet.
As the others have said. knowing why you are struggling will help us to help you, so any more information you can give us will be useful.

Hi Carole and welcome. How do you usually manage your diabetes? It would be helpful to know a bit more about you if you are happy to share?

Welcome to the forum Tilly from a fellow T2, who's just passed the 5 year Mark.

Welcome to the forum @Tilly26

Ask away with any questions you have. We have literally centuries of lived experience of different types of diabetes on the forum, and no question will be thought of as too obvious or ‘silly’

What particular things are you finding most challenging about your diabetes management recently?

Hi there, thank you. Apologies for the delay in responding. Very nice to have a friendly welcome.
It has been challenging for a while. but particularly the last few months. My mum died in November, which was expected- due to dementia & various other health issues, but i miss her & have a lot to sort out. This meant I gave up my job last summer so I could spend time with her. So that has been a source of stress. I am on metformin & insulin but unfortunately have not found the GP practice nurse helpful & none of the GP's specialise in diabetes. I was referred to a consultant last year & had made quite a lot of progress, but need to lose weight. That is the biggest issue. Have recently found out that I am also quite anaemic- which happens every so often- so am now taking iron- yuk! Wondering if that could be helping with my blood sugar control as over the last 2 weeks I am getting significantly lower readings & in fact some hypos so am needing to manage that.
Any advice or thoughts gratefully received. Thank you.

Hi Barbara, thank you so much. I have given some info in another reply so rather than duplicate, do have a look.
At present I take Metformin SR 1 gm am & pm.
Insulin - short acting- Nova rapid depending on carbs.
Long Acting - Levemir 14 U am & 16 U pm

Diagnosed 2009 but had loads of hormone issues over the years.
Recently- questions about whether I am type 2 or Type 1 or a mixture as I am very sensitive to insulin.

Have reduced carbs recently- but am still very partial to chocolate- though have cut it down significantly!!

Thank you.

Hi there, have posted some info re management etc. I need to get my most recent HbA1c next week.
Thank you.

Hi again @Tilly26. My sincere condolences on your sad loss (I too lost my mother last year, and it sent me to the Dr's, where i found out i was diabetic on top of everything else!) Stress can effect your levels, and it doesnt help having anaemic (another thing I have in common with you, i had it some years back) I know how wretched it makes you feel, everything is monumental emotionally, bodily you shake, you are not yourself. Hopefully the iron will soon get you feeling better, but couple that with all you have on your plate, its no wonder you are a bit 'all at sea'. I can only say you must look after yourself, take your time in sorting things out. Give yourself time to reflect. I bet you havent been eating properly either, with all the upset. Its only natural. Please keep posting, we are here to support you as best we can. x
