At risk of diabetes
Hi All, thank you for admitting me into the forum, I was diagnosed as a prediabetic in July 2020 with a HBA1 45, am on non prescribe medication but my GP advised me to control my sugar and carb intake and lose weight, which I have done by keeping strictly to all medical advice on my diet, In Sept did my 2nd Blood test, my GP phoned me with my HBA1C results, it has dropped to 38. He advised me to keep my new way of life as a Type 2 Diabetic which am doing since last July, I have lost 16kgs and am now very happy with my new way of life.

Hello @Salvador and welcome to our forum.
Congratulations on your success in getting such a good Hb1Ac result and on your weight loss.

It sounds as if you are getting very good advice and help from your doctor.
It would be very interesting if you could tell us more about the diet that you are following, as this may be helpful to other members.

Do you have any questions or anything that you would like help with at present?

Congratulations, well done on both the HbA1C and the weight loss.
You were fortunate to have a GP who encouraged you to cut carbs, many of them still tell us to eat them just switch to whole grains. They don't realise that for most of us there is not much difference in glucose spikes from 'brown carbs' than from 'white carbs'.

Thank you very much for your kind greetings, first of all I have omitted (unintensionally) that I come from Gibraltar the place where I reside, yes am getting very good advice from my GP, I have also joined a weekly Gibraltar Health Authority Diabetes specialist medical clinic run by a Diabetes specialist Nurse of 35 yrs experience, were by we can have group meetings (with Covid19 Restrictions), a one to one meeting or get you a consultant appt if needed. I can't complain really. Reference my diet is quite simple, I daily plan my three main meals Breky, Lunch & Dinner, I mainly eat Chicken, Fish, Vegs, salads, fruits, but i always check on low carb food, low cals, no sugar, I also look for hidden sugars at times i google it, no white bread, no rice nor pasta,no red meat No potatoes, Bread I use is Hovis Granary, also Quaker oats protein, but I keep to small portions, I divide plate into 3 parts which includes Veg and side salad optional, even though I got mobility issue i try to walk approx 150mins per week. that's about my new life picture, includes going out for dinners or social events but as a treat, alcohol kept to a glass of wine or a pint per week most times 0% Alcohol. Hope this helps you Toucan.

Yes Ian I know the feeling, though I am very happy with our NHS that's the Gibraltar Health Authority the care and attention I receive is excellent but at times you can get a negative blip and i got mine, In July I was diagnosed with Prediabetes by a hospital consultant as I was admitted into hospital with Sepsis 10 day stay, on arrival at A&E my first blood test quickly showed up as a 9 as to the norm of 5 when i got my 2nd blood test done in early September, a doctor not my GP phoned me gave my results as normal and nothing to worry about all's clear no probs at all, I told him are you sure doc yes no probs but I wasn't happy and worried with that, cause in my hospital file now computerised and my file reads PREDIABETIC in big capital letters. I got in contact with my GP told him the situation and he phoned me back. Told me though all my bloods are OK and normal am a prediabetic and as such I need to live the life of a type 2 even though am not a Diabetic, it's still a serious decease which i need to take care off. Yes am on low carbs, no Sugar and keeping an eye into hidden sugars, hope this is of any help or comfort to you.
