Hi, Biggestgerbil here.

I am T2 and don't know how long I have had it for. I get the feeling that it has been with me for more than 25 years but was only diagnosed about 5 years ago.

Why biggestgerbil? My wife ( ladyfriend at the time) used to breed gerbils for a couple of local pet shops. If you know anything about gerbils you will know that it is hard to stop them breeding. Sort of mini-rabbits. She used to call me her big gerbil (nothing to do with breeding prowess) I am 6' 2" tall mand tip the scales at 310lbs so I became the biggest gerbil.

When I was first diagnosed I panicked and gave up alcohol, sugar and related products. Now, I can't stand to have sugar in coffee etc. But I still eat one Bounty per week. Ah! simple pleasures...

Regards all

Hi BG, welcome to the forum 🙂 Nothing wrong with the occasional treat and it sounds like you have disciplined yourself well 🙂 Bear in mind that it is not just sugar, but all carbohydrates (bread, rice, pasta, potatoes etc.) that will raise your blood sugar levels and may also cause weight gain as the body needs to release more insulin to process it.

Are you on any medication for your diabetes?
