Hi im new to the site and just wondering if anyone knows where i can get the strips that you dip into drinks to check if they have sugar in them?🙂

Hi micmic, welcome to the forum 🙂 They are called 'Diastix' and you can get them from most pharmacies for about ?5 for 50 🙂 You don't need a prescription for them.

Welcome.....

There has been some discussion on the site about things like that, but cant remember the details.......

I think maybe urine test strips were used........

For me personally this would never be needed.....I can taste it.......🙂

Can you....?

thanx

thanx northener, yes i can taste it but sometimes i will send a drink back again and again and it will still taste like full sugar coke? I dont know if it may be that some cheaper versions do taste sweeter or if i am infact being given the wrong drink over and over again?

I hadn't heard of these. If my son gets a diet coke and it doesn't come in the can or bottle, he checks it with his glucose meter by putting a drop on a BG testing strip. Diet coke shows as LO or a meter error. Normal coke is about 16 mmol.

I suppose it depends on how often you are likely to need to do it. A blood test strips costs about 30p to the NHS, whereas a diastix costs about 10p to the individual. Costs will go up for the Diastix though if you don't use the lot within 6 months after opening (I think, if they are anything like ketostix, although they may still be usable for the purposes of testing drinks after this 🙂)

Very true. We don't eat out very often, in fact it's a rare treat! 🙂

Welcome to the forum micmic 🙂

I've found that a number of chemists (including my local boots) don't stock diastix (or similar) because everyone uses BG testers these days.

Although I've taken to generally buying drinks that come in the original bottle that way I know what it is. That tends to be a more expensive method sadly :(
