Relationship to Diabetes

I’m 72 and have been T2 since 2000, currently taking metformin, Toujeo and Fiasp. I’m lucky enough to get prescribed Libre 2 sensors and use iPhone app for tracking and low alarm, my tracking range is 3.9 to 10 and I’m in range >80%. Estimated A1c is 6.8. I’d be glad to hear from anybody with similar experiences, thx.

Welcome to the forum @agentmole

Great to hear you have access to Libre, and seem to be making great use of it and the insulins you are on. Well done for your excellent results 🙂

We have a whole host of people with diabetes on the forum, with varying levels of experience, durations of diabetes, and approaches to diabetes management.

Have you been on insulin for long? Do you get much trouble with hypos?

Hi and thx for reply, I've been taking insulin for over 14yrs now, hypos don't bother me too much and the libre alarm, which I've set to 4.5mmol/L , is invaluable help in predicting and treating potential hypos. I find even with Fiasp, which is ultra fast acting, it helps to inject 15minutes before eating to counter after meal spikes, my current in time in range is 91%!

I took Trulicity for a couple of years which helped with weight loss, but my GP wanted to raise my A1c to reduce heart problem risk and stopped me taking it with no substitute! My glucose levels went haywire with huge spikes, I was referred to the community diabetic nurse team who helped me with the Tuojeo insulin, and as you can see my results are great.

Over the years my tolerance to metformin has decreased and I've dropped from 2000mgs to 500mgs/day.

Of course you can't have had diabetics that long with no impact, I've some nerve damage to toes and feet and my left eye suffers from macula degeneration, but consider myself lucky so far!
