DON'T PANIC! (in nice friendly writing)

You've come to the right place for help and advice, and you've done it just after diagnosis (took me about 8 years). Post any questions you have and don't feel silly.

Welcome

Welcome Nanaapple. Whereabouts in Lincs. are you. I am Lincs. too. I was diagnosed 2 years ago but am on diet and exercise - no pills yet. Anything you want to know, there is always someone here who can help you.
It does get easier. Thelma

Welcome to the forum.

Yes, things can get easier! 🙂

I was diagnosed in Oct 2009 with an HBA1c of 13.3% (in old money) and a spot BG test of 22mmol/L. I was overweight, had a poor diet and did little exercise.

Immediately, I turned that around and after 3 months was able to come off the meds plus my BG levels were nice and controlled (mostly, with the occasional blip). My last HBA1c was 5.8% (or 40mmol/mol in new money).

I was lucky (so far) because my pancreas still pumps out a decent quantity of insulin. My problem was that because I was so overweight and inactive I wasn't able to use the insulin properly (otherwise known as insulin resistance). Losing the weight and upping the exercise has reversed that situation. BUT, if I slip back to old ways, the symptoms will return!! Once a diabetic, always a diabetic.

Anyway, I hope that you make similar progress (assuming that you need to!) and that you can look forward to a healthier you!

Good luck,

Andy 🙂
