Hi everyone nice to meet you! I've been diagnosed with t1 diabetes 8 years ago so I'm not new to that 🙂 I am however new to taking my condition seriously and I've started getting more involved with it. I've noticed that being able to chat to and/or meet others who are going through the same has helped me massively already and I want to keep it up. I like the support and knowing that I'm not alone!

At the moment, I'm injecting NovoRapid and Levemir but in two weeks I will start using an insulin pump. I'm so excited about it but now the day is getting closer I'm getting more and more scared too 🙂

Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself in case you start wondering who that weird girl is that keeps popping up in your posts lol. Hope you all have a good weekend!

Ilse 🙂

Hi Ilse, welcome to the forum 🙂 Great to hear that you have decided to take control of your diabetes - if there is anything we can do to help, just let us know 🙂 We've got lots of knowledgeable pumpers too should you need any help there - what pump are you getting?

*waves to the weird girl popping up in the newbie thread 😉*

Hi Ilse.

Nice to see a new face round here =) I came here after deciding to take my diabetes seriously too and can honestly say its the best decision I have ever made. Everyone here is sooo friendly and helpful and has a wealth of knowledge so never be afraid to ask anything even if you think you know the answer or it sounds silly. I've learnt more since joining here over a year ago than I had in the 5 years I was diabetic before coming here.

Hi Northerner!
Thanks I will definitely do! It's strange to see how much you can still learn even after 8 years! I'm sure I'll also have loads of questions once I start pumping! I'll be getting a Medtronic Veo I think it's called, that's the only one they do at my hospital. I'm liking the idea of not having to inject myself 5 times a day anymore... Hopefully with the right amount of effort the better HBa1C results will follow!

*waves at Lou* Hi there!! Yes I thought I'd finally grow up and take things into my own hands lol. I agree having a bit of support and understanding makes a world of difference!

How is your pregnancy going? Congratulations :D part of the reason I'm starting to take this whole thing super seriously now is because I want to be able to think about getting pregnant in the not too distant future. Reading loads of scary stories though :( xxx

Ah, we have several Veo users here so you will be in good company 🙂 There is always something to learn about diabetes I think, no matter how long you have had it. In fact, soem of our members have had it for decades and still learned lots of new stuff! 🙂 So you certainly shouldn't feel as though you ought to know it all 🙂

Hi Unicorn. Welcome 🙂

You never stop learning as new ideas come along. And several old ideas fade away :D

Yes you're definitely right! Good to know that there are others with the Veo I'm sure that will come in very handy at some point 😉 just read you are organising a meeting in York in July, think I might pop along for that! Do you do meetings often? Well... I can see quite a few in the events so maybe a bit of a stupid question lol!

You'd be very welcome 🙂 The meets have proved very popular and we have a lot more arranged this year than last year - it's so good to just be able to chat amongst people who 'get it' - all ages and types welcome! 🙂

Ditto!

Hi Isle,

I too have been diagnosed for 8 years and after a horrible stay in hospital for DKA I too have decided to take my Diabetes seriously! I've started testing up to 8 times a day and already feel so much more in control of it!!

Good luck with the pump, I don't mind the injections so I don't think the pump would suit me! Do you know any one in your area with Type 1?

Cher x

Hi Ilse welcome to the forum! 🙂

Hi Ilse and welcome 🙂

I was 28 yrs with T1 before joining (suspect it didn't actually exist then, anyway!) for similar reasons to you.
As hinted at by Robster, I have also learned some new approaches and binned some old misconceptions.
Generally, this is a great place to be.

Thanks all for your warm welcomes :D I have seen the meeting in York Siobhan and I would love to go along! Are you going too?

Hi Cher! I've managed to keep the scary pump away for years now I never wanted one before but no matter how much effort I put in I never seem to be able to get things under control so I'm hoping this could ve the answer for me! I haven't got any friends with diabetes near me unfortunately :( I have met a few really nice people further away which is great! I would love to meet some people closer by to meet up with now and then!
