Hi Rose, welcome to the forum 🙂 How did your diagnosis come about? 5.1 is a very good number - when did you do the test? Are you on any medication? Although a lot of people talk about 'reversing' diabetes, what they really mean is managing it well, but that is just as good 🙂

We do have members in Leeds, I believe. I'm from Brighouse originally, but I live in Southampton now 🙂

Hi,
My doctor wanted to do a blood test just for a health check up and it came back as type 2 diabetes and I'm taken metformin and gliciziade. I'm on a diet I'm cutting out sweet things. How long have you been diabetic? Are you taking tablets?x

Hi Rose...agree with Northerner your levels are good...5.1 is equivalent to a blood glucose level of 32/33 in mmols...which would indicate your control is excellent and you are on target...great achievement in six months...have you had an HbA1c test which gives you your approximate BG levels over the last two/three months...if you are using a meter and I presume you are...then the 5.1 will be you your BG level at that time...not the overall figure...the HbA1c is the all important test...seems your management of your diabetes is first class so far.

Hi,
Yes I was tested for HbA1c about 2 months ago I'm due again soon. It was 66 then. I'm using a meter.

I was checked for HbA1c about 2 months ago it was 66. I'm due to go again soon. I use a meter to check my blood sugar. How's your diabetes?

Hi,

Exactly the same number I got on my 1st HbA1c test 66mmols...that roughly work out to about 8.2%...believe you must have lowered that further since then if you are getting low fives when testing regularly...when you have your next review if you have reduced your BG's significantly perhaps you could discuss reducing some of your medication...again as Northerner said for me not about reversing diabetes...its all about control and managing it...you seem to be doing that with the figures you've given...I started at the end of July last year...BG 17.4...no Hba1c done at diagnosis...take Metformin...500 mgs twice a day...first review got down to 66...last review now at 51 with another due in March...be good to hear your progress...well done.

Hello Rose, welcome. 🙂

Oops I put my levels on the wrong thread but seeing as you're interested Rose. Welcome and hope you can get your levels to where you want them but with a 5.1 you're doing brilliantly! I'm doing it diet only and started with a Hba1c of 52. It was 40 last time it was taken. I have an annual review and test regularly.
The difficulty is keeping the momentum going but it's worth it. Hope you enjoy the friendship and support of the site Rose.

You seem to be doing ok. Well done.
