Hi please can you recommend dinner ideas
Pretty well what you eat already but with much smaller portions of the high carb foods like potatoes, rice, pasta, bread. Fill up with extra veg or salad and give puddings a miss except for special occasions. However things like sugar free jelly and cream, Greek yoghurt and berries or berries and cream are low carb.
Have a look at this link and you will see there are plenty of meals you can have, there are some menu plans for various tastes and budgets.

The guide to a diabetic diet/cookery/meals is to reduce the amount of carbohydrates you eat, and this includes starchy foods such as potatoes, rice, pasta, cereals as well as the obviously sugary things like sweets, cakes, biscuits and sugary fizzy drinks
And generally cut out processed & junk food

The easiest way to find ideas is to look at the Living With Diabetes section on the Home Page of DUK, and to play around with the Search Box on YouTube for categories like Meals for Diabetics; Mediterranean Diet for Diabetics; Low Carbohydrate Mediterranean Diet, and so on
Or if you find interesting ideas, substitute the carbs with veg

Grated cauliflower is a nice low carb and healthy replacement for rice.

Personally, I struggled to go proper low carb, and frankly to change all my food habits, especially as I have other health issues and frankly don’t want to lose all my favourite foods at a difficult time. I already eat a reasonably healthy diet with few processed foods, so I modified my existing diet by cutting all carbs to 1/3 of previous portions, so 1 medium potato rather than 2, one handful pasta rather than 3 etc and added more meat and veg instead. I also have roasted nuts to hand, and cut fruit when I feel peckish. Cut out sugar from tea (which was my only sweet thing). With this - and exercise - I have brought my numbers down to normal range in 4-5 months. Maybe this isn’t the first route to go, but it has been a more sustainable method for me (I have tried keto in the past and just didn’t get on with it).

I wonder if my success with type 2 is more because I regard my diet as 'anything except high carb foods' rather than it being necessary to restrict anything.
When I do eat carbs I do not differentiate between sugar and starch - my body doesn't seem to so there seems to be little point in keeping a tally of what is sugar and what starch, it is all going to end up as monosaccharides anyway.

Totally with you on this. I am a biiiig carb lover and have no sweet tooth, so if I’ll always choose a slice of pizza over chocolate (But of course I don’t eat the whole pizza in one go). I get that it isn’t enough for everyone and they need a stricter regimen, but for someone who is “only“ in the pre-diabetic range, it could well be enough.

There are low carb pizzas - though you'd probably have to make it yourself - I have never found pizza interesting other than the herby smell, and I am told that many people prefer the low carb version to 'normal'.
When I attend a party with the groups I am in I eat before I go out, as we all take some food and my dishes vanish away in no time at all.

As a true pizza lover, I can assure you there is no replacement for a Neapolitan sourdough pizza . I don’t have many vices, but this is one I will risk an occasional spike for! I have found that I can avoid this with a glass of wine to counteract it. So I sacrifice
