Sorry if this question has been answered before, prob lots of times. our son was diagnosed just 2 weeks ago from type 2 to type I insulin 4 times a day. We are supporting him ( overly protectively he would say) but trying not to. Anyway we have appointments for all the back up professionals next month. But in the mean time he is a night time snacker usually savoury Pringles, hoops etc but these are pushing up the blood sugars has anyone any ideas of what he could snack on that won’t do this too much?

Cheese, eggs (I keep a screwtop tub of hard boiled eggs in the fridge), cold meats? I go for that sort of thing as a snack.

I have some nuts, unsalted mixed with no raisins, or small chunks of cheese, sometimes a couple of Marie biscuits or a low cal jelly. Good luck

Hi Bromley, welcome to the forum. we parents are often guilty of being over-protective, as I’m sure my two would agree. We find yogurt, a cereal bar or digestive biscuits work for them.

If he wants to eat those kind of snacks then he needs to inject his quick acting insulin to cover them, that's why he is on a basal bolus system 🙂 Things will be a bit hit and miss to start with but once your son has learnt the basics he can eat what he wants and when he wants as long as he covers it with insulin.
